"There can be no doubt that this literary example only made sense because the possibility of poisoning from eating quail was widely understood."[edit]

This sentence appears at the beginning of the second paragraph of the History section. It is not at all true, however: an equally valid interpretation is that the writers saw the quails eating things toxic to humans, but saw that the quails suffered no ill effect.
