no "mugging"

[edit]

this new article is really great work by xDanielx. I don't think there's any reason to include the word "mugging." (I am referring to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mugging (mugging for exam)). OfficeGirl 10:09, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Feel free to delete the "mugging" mention if it's not sufficiently notable -- I'm not familiar with the word so I don't feel prepared to make the judgment. — xDanielx T/C 01:00, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

This suggestion is a bit ironic since I (hesitantly) named the article in the first place, but I'm having second thoughts about the title. I think one could argue that not all cramming consists of memorization, but other forms of learning as well. What do others think about renaming to Cramming (academics)? — xDanielx T/C 03:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Random note: If others support the name change, I think we should wait until the mugging AfD is over to prevent confusion, I just thought I'd bring it up now. — xDanielx T/C 04:01, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the term would apply to any kind of time when quick last-minute memorization is needed and not just for school, e.g. preparing for a certification test, preparing for an interview, etc. It seems to be specific to tests. I don't think you would describe memorizing acting lines for a play, or legal points for a court appearance, to be cramming. But perhaps. It's pretty clear that the term "mugging" is used extensively in Asia. Wikidemo 05:21, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, you have a point. How does Cramming (studying) sound? — xDanielx T/C 07:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
