Essay tag[edit]

Much off this is an analysis/book report type text, which would be fine for the reference desk but when inserted into an article needs to have its conclusions sourced and tone cleaned up. Sentences like "The temptation is to see this difficult little book as an advocate for what was to come; but this gap between the ideal vision and the historical truth is virtually unbridgeable." are simply inappropriate for a reference article. Although she is enormously appreciated on Reference Desk, Clio the Muse is new to mainspace. If you wished to hurt a newbie or to drive away a potentially valuable contributor from article space, you probably succeeded. If you did not, I question your judgment in handling the delicate issue. --Ghirla-трёп- 21:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I am ignorant and Night Gry has done something else, but do you really consider adding the Essay tag to be so destructive to Clio's psyche?Yeago 03:42, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Every edit page has a warning on it: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it." I don't see anything hurtful about marking an instance of inappropriate writing style. It's fine in a forum with space for the author's personal opinions, but in mainspace we need to defer to sources. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 16:47, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
