Untitled[edit]

My father might have a few photos of the observatory somewhere on his computer. I'll see if maybe we can get them posted.

Careful what you wish for.

I removed the Photo Requested bit. Looks good.

Another ref[edit]

There's an article in the Globe and Mail which has some interesting tidbits, if anyone wants to add them. Mindmatrix 13:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sale completed[edit]

Looks like the sale has been completed and the observatory may be closing down completely in the next week or so.[1] -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:14, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The sale portion seems rather biased. I wonder if this is Nimbyism at play. Examples: 1) The article states that light pollution is not a factor - without giving any references; then goes on to say the university is closing the site due to light pollution. If you think that's just the line they are trotting out to justify the sale then back up the contradiction with some facts. My own thoughts are that light pollution must be a factor in an urban evironment, otherwise we would see more observatories in cities.

2) The article uses the words "park starved area" regarding the mayor's comments - but a quick look at google maps reveals 25+ parks within walking distance? Maybe that should be mentioned?

3)The sale is only shown in a negative light. Nothing is mentioned of the 70 odd million raised for the university - which according to the Globe (Jul 28 article) the university "will reinvest the proceeds in the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics." Dunlap Institute article[edit]

It has been suggested that the proposed article for the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics be merged with the article for the David Dunlap Observatory. Two separate articles are required as the two are separate entities, unassociated except historically. An article for the institute is required to avoid confusion that the two are associated, and bc the reference to the observatory appears on searches for the institute. DunComm (talk) 19:24, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing the redirect and moving information about the Dunlap Institute to a separate article Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics. It is clear that that the observatory and research institute are now separate entities. --K Lepo (talk) 23:39, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
