Decoy dogs leading ducks into a decoy at: http://www.decoymans.co.uk/pages/title.html

The lk is to the text of the title page of much or all of
"THE BOOK OF DUCK DECOYS [:] THEIR CONSTRUCTION, MANAGEMENT, AND HISTORY[,] BY SIR RALPH PAYNE-GALLWEY, BART.",
which presumably links on to transcriptions much or all of the 1886 book. One may hope that there is something in the succeeding pages explaining or depicting the "decoy dogs" and going "into a decoy", but i only viewed a few pages.

Decoy pool[edit]

I have set decoy pool (the retronymic name for the original meaning) as a redirect to here. If the page needs to be split in future (it doesn't need it now) that section should be moved there. Thryduulf 10:56, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

why is Decoy pool a retronym?? --Gbleem 22:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Duck decoys[edit]

How are duck decoys used in modern hunting? --Gbleem 22:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discuss[edit]

Topic organization[edit]

Despite the (at least recently) steady flow of edits (50 in the last 3 years) to the accompanying article (started in December 2003), i find it to be a seriously neglected article: The corresponding Dab page Decoy (disambiguation) lists, with one exception, things bearing "Decoy" as their proper name, while the pretended primary-topic page has no single topic but rather multiple topics involving the cluster of things called "decoys" by virtue of their serving the function of decoying. (Decoy (chess) is the only obvious exception, appearing on the Dab page -- perhaps in deliberate defiance of the erroneous trend among editors of the Dab page, but perhaps bcz it is clearer that the chess decoy is a tactic, not the object used to decoy the opponent.)
(I'm skeptical that an encyclopedic article can be written on the topic of Decoying, identifying the element -- perhaps the decoyer's insight that superficial resemblance can precipitate ill-founded relaxation of vigiliance -- that would justify treating Decoy's content as constituting a single topic!)
IMO a bold merger of the Dab into Decoy as the [equal-]disambiguation page, would be justified; the existing Decoy prose would need moving into separate articles about the various types of decoying. Speak up here if you see it differently.

This seems like a non-starter to me; we shouldn't merge a list of albums and movies titled "Decoy" into a general article about the topic. I'm removing the tag. If there gets to be too much decoy-related content here, then that can be split to separate, more detailed articles per WP:summary style. wbm1058 (talk) 18:36, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
