Malaysian/Malay[edit]

AFAIK, Malaysian/Malay dubs of Disney movies are still rare, at least for theatrical releases. Tarzan was dubbed and a big deal was made of it at the time, but AFAIK most since have not been dubbed. See e.g. [1]. It seems Frozen was dubbed [2] but although the theme song was dubbed, I can't find any evidence Moana itself was [3] [4]. Planes and Tangled [5] were also dubbed but there were possibly only for TV and so I'm not sure if DCVI was involved or it was a local effort (with the permission of Disney obviously). It's possible I'm wrong about Planes [6], but I still think it's too early to say Malay is now a standard dub language. This [7] is a bit old now I guess but confirms at the time at least the song didn't mean a full dub was expected. Nil Einne (talk) 12:26, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysian dubs started to be released only recently, mainly for Disney Channel, albeit some exceptions do exist (e.g. Frozen). It is quite likely that a full Malaysian dub of Moana will be released within the next 2/3 years (along with an Indonesian version). Ninahi8 (talk) 16:22, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you provide some evidence for this (i.e. a source confirming there is a plan to always dub and that these are performed by DCVI)? If not, was Wreck-It Ralph dubbed? How about Big Hero 6? Because otherwise it seems to me you're making a claim without a source and with scant evidence. Nil Einne (talk) 16:52, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, Malaysian dubs are rather recent. The politics concerning the Hindi, Indonesian and Malaysian dubs is rather particular: until a few years ago, a dubbed version was aired on Disney Channel alone, with a delay of 2/3 years (with no theater nor home video release). In recent times, it looks like they are having alternate theater premiers, together with the rest of dubbings. For Malaysian-language versions, it's the case of Frozen, Brave[1][2] and Wreck-It Ralph[3][4]. For Hindi and Indonesian, the list goes much further back in time: the most recent example for the first can be Moana[5], while for the latter, the most recent theater release was for Finding Dory[6]. About Big Hero 6, for none of these 3 languages a dubbed version has been released yet. Ninahi8 (talk) 20:54, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
