Affect Display vs. Affect[edit]

Is there any literature concerning "affect display" for longer-lasting affective phenomena, such as dispostional affect? DCDuring 12:55, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that this article does not feature any evidence or research as to how psychologist found this concept to be true. Also, is there any research or counter view points arguing against it? If not, i feel we should mention that.Ch2dd (talk) 21:02, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Content Gaps & Suggestions[edit]

Overall, it is a good start to an article. But, I have a couple suggestions:

First, in the subsection 1.1, titled conceptual distinctions from emotion an mood, I noticed a couple things missing. I Feel as though the actual content of this section is ok, and there are many internal links to help with that, the problem is that there are no citations, there should be some indication as to where this information is coming from. Also, there need to be a closing parentheses after the list of specific responses.

Second, in the introduction, it talks about people with different affectivity tending to see things through a pink or black lens. Even though it cited, it doesn't say anything more about pink or black lens throughout the article, and I thought that was a little confusing. I feel like you could either take it out if its not that important or you could talk a little more about it in the section 1.2, titled dimensions, where it talks about positive and negative affectivity.

Content Expansion[edit]

The pink and the black lens is discussed in the Dimensions section but it is the same concept as mentioned in the first paragraph. I think additional information on this topic from source [1] would be beneficial to understanding this concept. After discussing the moderately weak correlation affect and The Big Five share, there could be an expansion of the traits/behaviors/feelings associated with positive and negative affectivity and how those relate to The Big Five traits. Evaluating Articles and Sources[edit]

After reviewing this article I found a few things I think could be improved on. I noticed there was some content gaps in a few sections and subsections. More specifically, there is no section dedicated to personality, and how dispositional affect directly affects personality. I think it would be a good idea to add a section about that, as in the beginning paragraph, it talks about dispositional affect affecting personality along with other things such as the workplace, however no section was added to expand on that information about the direct connections to personality, like there was for the others. I also found that a few sources are a bit outdated (from the 1980s and 90s) so looking for some more recent sources could increase accuracy of the article. There is also one or two sections with no citations at all, so citations need to be added to those areas. A couple of minor things are that a couple links are broken, so those need to be linked to another article, and the formatting of the sections, subsections, etc could be improved to help the ease of navigation. Lastly, below I added the sections I think could use expanding on to fill in content gap, or balance out the article.

1. Relations to personality traits section

• Could add sub section with the research on how positive and negative affect are related to Neuroticism and Extraversion
• Add a subsection with the research of how positive and negative affect are not related to neuroticism and extraversion
• More information about the researchers findings correlation of the two models

2.Characteristics section

• Sub-sections can be added for emotion and mood to separate them better, and add information to each.

3.Dispositional Affect and the workplace subsection

• Add information, such as research findings in the positive/negative subsection
• Add information about the negative affect to balance out the article

4.Measurement section

• Add information about how the results correlate to either high or low positive/negative affectivity levels could be added
• Add information about the stability and accuracy of the method of measurement

5. Add a section

• Section for personality to put findings on how dispositional affect directly affects personality.

Plans for Article Improvement[edit]

I would like to start working on adding to the 'dispositional affect in the workplace' subsection to expand the information in this area. I think adding information about positive and negative affect in relation to how it affects people in the work environment would be beneficial. Here are a few sources that can be used in adding to the article.

Clarity[edit]

I would like a more clear and defined definition of what "black lens" and "pink lens" meant and I feel like that in the article it felt that the article was talking to us if we know what dispositional affect is. They gave us a small definition in the first paragraph but we need a more simplified explanation. Especially in the cultural section I would like them to give us how different cultures and how people are raised affects the way dispositional affect hinders them or advance them. Also I want to know the affects Dispositional affects has on people. Isbenn (talk) 05:41, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
