External links[edit]

It is common practice to include a link to the school district website in school articles. Typically the district website provides information that applies to either the specific school in the article or that applies to all schools in the district. For this school there is content on the district website that applies specifically to this school and is not present on the school web pages (https://www.napsk12.org/page/post-graduate-scholarship-program) mentioned as an example of why the link is appropriate. That is not the only content on the district website concerning this school. It isn't necessary to link directly to all the specific content on the district website that applies to this school nor is is appropriate to attempt to do so. Readers interesting in finding information regarding this school within the district website are free to navigate on their own. Gab4gab (talk) 17:00, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay so the main link to the school district, the link you click on, contains no encyclopaedic info on the school. The info is about the district not the school. It only contains some non encyclopaedic minor news mentions. Links should be about the article subject, not a parent org or the like. Readers should t have to go fishing through the subpages of a website to find information pertaining to the article subject, and remember a high school is the subject here not the school district, which should probably have its own article where it’s link is appropriate. As a result the link to the school district top page fails WP:ELNO #1, 13 and 19 (number 13 of which specifies it should be deep linked to the page about the subject.) That post graduate link above is not particularly encyclopaedic, and of no interest to anyone not attending the school and since we’re a worldwide encyclopaedia shouldn’t be linked. I do not completely agree or disagree with you viewpoint. I think it is reasonable to assume that a school district website contains information about specific schools that some readers will find informative and is beyond what would be included in the school article if it became a featured article. There is no prohibition to linking parent organization websites. It is not a great burden for readers to explore the district website if they are looking for further information it might have. Providing deep links to relavant items would require an ongoing review as districts update their website content. So as a practical matter I'm in favor of simply linking to the district home page.
I do not remember encountering the removal of a district website from a school external links before. That and the large number of school articles that do contain district links gives me the impression that we do not have consensus for removing them. Perhaps I'm wrong. In any case, rather than have this same discussion for each school, it might be useful to have a more general discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Schools.
