The Green Knight: Also a Dullahan?

[edit]

Is there a parallel to the Dullahan myth with that of Sir Gawain (of Arthurian legend) and his encounter with the Green Knight? If so, I suggest adding that, but I have no exact sources! Dain Quentin Gore 10:10, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Myth details

[edit]

Doesn't the Dullahan also blind watchers in one eye? Also, He calls out the name of his victim when he stops riding, and this can be countered if you think it's gonna be you, simply by plugging your ears...— Preceding unsigned comment added by Terrance Rogers (talkcontribs) 05:59, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Potter

[edit]

The Headless Hunt in Harry Potter ride horses and carry their head under their arm, if its important. -Lordloss210 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.247.84 (talk) 16:46, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Headless Horseman

[edit]

Another apparent tie-in, from American folklore. Though most closely associated with the Washington Irving tale, where the demon is identified as a Hessian mercenary from the Revolutionary War, the parallels with the Irish legend are striking. One wonders if there might be a link. Laodah 17:46, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unseelie?

[edit]

So erhm... Question: If the Dullahan is a fairy from Irish folklore, why does the article classify it as 'unseelie'? The article potholed under that word explicitly states that seelie/unseelie is a distinction made for Scottish fairies and not (usually) made for Irish one. Is the Dullahan a specific exception or are we just dealing with someone's pop-culture understanding of mythology causing them to classify the Dullahan as 'unseelie' simply because the Dullahan is decidedly unpleasant?
