Arms[edit]

Is there any reason why the main tinctures used in the image of Lord Elgin's arms have been reversed? The description gives, "Or, a saltire and chief gules, on a canton argent a lion rampant azure." whereas in fact the image is "[Gules], a saltire and chief [or]., on a canton argent a lion rampant azure. eponymy[edit]

The most famous Earl was the 7th Earl, who removed and transported to Britain the so-called Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon. In Dublin there are roads that come from the Earl's titles. These are Elgin Road and Ailesbury Road.

Presumably these roads are not named for the seventh earl, as the earldom of Ailesbury died with the fourth earl of Elgin / third earl of Ailesbury. So who was the eponym of the roads? These passages do not belong in the same short paragraph. —Tamfang (talk) 06:31, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
