Venetia Stanley[edit]

I wrote the Venetia Stanley article, in the main. It still needs to be referenced out, which is just a bibliographical headache... anyway, I really think this article needs serious references about the duel claim.

The reason is that, while we have reason to believe that Venetia was in London at the time claimed for the duel, possibly left there with some servants by her father, she was about twelve years old (born in December of 1600). The general story is that she came up for Princess Elizabeth's wedding in 1612 and begged to be allowed to stay. Still, her youth makes either the date or the identification of the lady in question kind of suspect. There are a lot of unfounded rumors about her, esp those also surrounding the Sackvilles.
