Thoughts on "FHM Sexiest women list"?

Appropriate to include? If so, where? Happymelon 14:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Okay, Elizium, I didn't know that Emma Watson's Official website wasn't a reliable source. But sorry for the confusion, Bbb23, I didn't know it had to be in production. For that I extend my apologies. Still makes me question why you would post that www.emmawatson.com is unreliable though, Elizium. Signed Darkemagik (talk) 03:53, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Please read WP:RS for information on this. I linked it in my edit summary. Screen Daily is a mainstream news organization with a reputation for fact-checking and is expressly permitted by WP:RS. emmawatson.com is a promotional, specialty website which does not appear to have editorial oversight. It appears to mostly re-publish news items that have come out in the mainstream media, and that makes it a tertiary source. Elizium23 (talk) 04:44, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Erm, it's actually her official website; it's a primary source. That doesn't help in this case, but in general, it's reliable for any of the cases set out in WP:PRIMARY. Happymelon 09:36, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

New prospective image for Emma Watson

I'd like to point out that the image of Watson that was attempted to be placed in the article is definitely not from the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire premiere in 2005. Watson got her hair cut in late 2010, so that makes no sense.

The image is fine otherwise, unless there are license infringements, thought you ought to know.

Darkemagik (talk) 03:06, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Yup... infringement. Magic 8-Ball say "Reply hazy, try again"... Tabercil (talk) 03:20, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Sigh, I'll hopefully take a good one at the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 premiere that we can use. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkemagik (talkcontribs) 22:53, 8 March 2011

Brown

According to her official website (via a personal message from Emma herself, dated 7 March) she has left Brown University for 'a semester or two' to concentrate on her many projects. The news is nearly a week old, does anyone want to add it to the article? 124.183.154.233 (talk) 05:46, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it says she stopped going, I think it said she isn't taking as many classes. Might have misread it though. Darkemagik (talk) 00:12, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

According to her website (as of March 7, 2011): "I've decided to take a bit of time off to completely finish my work on Harry Potter (the last one comes out this summer) and to focus on my other professional and acting projects. I will still be working towards my degree... it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought : )."
My interpretation of that is she's not taking any classes, but it's not 100% clear.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:20, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Is this really encyclopedia material? --BwB (talk) 08:57, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Sure, what she's doing regarding her career vs. her education.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:35, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
The article should be updated to reflect the fact that she plans to transfer from Brown to another (undisclosed) school. Oh, why is this article still semi-protected? It's been six months on semi-, and semi-protection should only be used on a short term basis to limit excessive vandalism, not for a long-term lockdown of users without accounts.

140.247.154.150 (talk) 18:38, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not a fan of using long-term protection myself, but I feel it is justified for high-profile pages like this that are a magnet for vandalism, particularly if the subject is a biography of a living person. If you look at the protection log, you can see that semi-protection was implemented many times and vandalism re-occurred every time it was removed. I guess it's not that much of a barrier for benevolent accountless editors, as requests can still be posted on the talk page and creating an account is quick and easy. doomgaze (talk) 19:05, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, I note that you corrected my use of the template (I haven't been keeping up with all the different versions of the templates...), but no one's updated the article yet. Doomgaze, I agree with you in principle, but I think - given the fact that the update has not yet occurred - that having semiprotection strongly discourages new (potential) Wikipedians from joining. Many people would not have gotten started if not for editing without an account at first, and if we're going to semiprotect many of the popular (which also happen to be the ones that are most likely to be vandalized; see Bush, George W...) we're losing that source of potential contributors. Plus in the time period since the semiprotection was last instated, many things have changed, and our valiant vandalism-fighting robots are ready to revert most of the obvious vandalism that we're worried about. Just my two cents... and hopefully someone edits the article soon. 140.247.154.120 (talk) 00:40, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
(Oh, and Crazymonkey, just a friendly reminder to use edit summaries! I know you just changed my template and then added on a template reply, but edit summaries are useful and helpful. Just my PSA...) 140.247.154.120 (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
You really want to add that Watson's spokesperson said that Watson will be transferring from Brown to an unnamed university in the fall? Can't we wait to see where she's actually going? It's pretty nothing stuff at this point. As for the protection issue, why don't you address it with the admin who put it in - User:Tcncv? Although from looking at the logs, there's been a long history of disruptive editing of this article.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:02, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
It's not exactly "nothing", as it made the front page of USAToday.com.[1] Interestingly enough, the headline asks whether she was bullied out of the school, and near the bottom of the article it says Emma's answer to that question is "No." ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:59, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
They could print it on every publication in the world, and I'd still say it's close to nothing, without even a destination school being mentioned. If Watson's spokesperson speaks, the media will publish it - that doesn't make it interesting or worthy of inclusion. The bully thing is funny - talk about misleading headlines. Let's see if I've got this right. We have a non-story about Watson transferring to an unnamed school because she wasn't bullied, so we not only don't know the name of the new school but we don't even know why she's transferring. Maybe it's for the benefit of Wikipedia editors so we'll have something to talk about. Excuse the sarcasm, Baseball, it's not directed at you.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:05, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

As I was writing my little sarcastic piece, Baseball added the material to the article. I'm not going to revert it, but I think it should be reverted. First, we have the "news" that she's thinking of leaving Brown for her career, and now we have the "news" that she's leaving Brown for some other school. Next, we'll have the news that she's changed her mind yet again and is going to the Arctic Circle to ponder her options. As an aside, there shouldn't be bare URLs inline.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:11, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

There's a lot of excruciating fan-oriented detail about her decision to go to Brown, so as she's now fixing to leave, that fact deserves a sentence, anyway. Notice I left out the "bullying" stuff as that appears to be speculation on somebody's part. But her decision to leave the school sounds firm enough. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:24, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't care whether this is included, but I've closed the edit request following Bugs' edit. Bugs: if you change answered=no to answered=yes in the edit request template, that closes the request and removes it from Category:Wikipedia semi-protected edit requests. It might be worth mentioning that the Message she posted on 29 April (complete with Pittsburgh misspelled) sort of said she could be staying at Brown so its probably to much of an undecided issue to really rule on anyway. My guess is that it will change multiple times before the Fall semester starts and the issue is in the past rather than the future. Darkemagik (talk) 21:47, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

"Years Active: 2001 - 2011"???

Has Emma Watson come out publicly and stated that she wishes to retire from acting 2011 onwards? If not, then in the info box, why does it say 'Years Active: 2001 - 2011'? Shouldn't it be 'Years Active: 2001 - present'? We are not officially aware of Emma's future plans as of now. Besides, after 'Deathly Hallows Part 2', she's got two more films coming out this year. So, according to me, in the info box, the data should be changed to 'Years Active: 2001 - present'.

Thanks. 59.184.157.195 (talk) 12:04, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks for bringing it to attention. Nymf hideliho! 13:03, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Could a more recent picture of Emma be used in the info box (taken from the London/NY 'Deathly Hallows Part 2' premieres dated July 2011)?

Hate to be picky, but could a more recent/latest picture of Emma be used in the info box (from the London/NY 'Deathly Hallows Part 2' premieres, dated July 2011)? The picture in use is from November 2010. Nothing wrong with the present picture, but the July 2011 picture would be the latest one (not to mention, on Rupert Grint's page, a picture from July 2011 is actually present in the info box).

Thanks. 59.184.179.134 (talk) 12:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

That would be great, but see our image use policy; the image would have to have no copyright on it, so you or anyone else who may have taken one has to release it under an appropriate license. Not many pictures are released this way, so we do unfortunately tend to end up with out-of-date images. doomgaze (talk) 12:38, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

It should be added that Emma Watson made 32 million dollars because of Harry Potter franchise

Here is the source, in emma watson`s wikipedia english article it only says that she earn more than 10 million, this information is more complete

But the source doesn't say that. It just says that $32M is her estimated net worth - and, unlike Forbes, the Reporter doesn't make it clear what the estimate is based on.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:00, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Approval for editing the page.

Hello,I do like to request to any administrator out there that I do be delighted to edit the Emma Watson page as I am a big fan of hers.Since wikipedia is a site to give as much information as it can about celebrities,I thought that the personal section of this page was a bit short.I do like to edit the page with all the facts taken from Emma watson's personal website. Please if you have any problem make me aware of it already.Thank You ````pspranits — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pspranits (talkcontribs) 13:20, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

It was announced on September 1, 2011 by Greg Kneser, Vice President and Dean of Students at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, that Emma Watson would be attending the college in the Fall of 2011.

New Movies

She's starring in a few new movies, one called "The End of The World", as herself: http://www.starpulse.com/news/NextMovie/2012/05/01/emma_watson_will_witness_the_end_of_th 123.211.81.140

Personal life - education

Will she not technically *complete* her final year in 2013? She'll be beginning what is presumably her final year in September 2012, not 'completing' it this year. Also, she has taken her third term/trimester out of Worchester (according to her official website, presumably in a message written by Watson herself), and that has not been mentioned in the article. (Source: http://www.emmawatson.com/en/Latest/Emma/Emmas-Bling-Ring-Message/). Would someone care to update? 121.217.70.140 (talk) 11:02, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Ok, this is just getting creepy. This is a website about an actress, so exactly how she is spending her college time really does not matter. Stating where she is going to school is fine, but reporting on every last move she makes or leave of absence she takes is really more tabloid stalker material than encyclopedia material. Go to an Emma Watson fan site if you want to know what she is doing on a day-by-day basis. Indrian (talk) 13:29, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
    • So the alleged year of graduating should be removed from the article, as it hasn't happened yet. Is that not logical? She has made statements regarding her two instances of deferring her education, is that also 'creepy'?

Edit request on 28 May 2012

Emma Watson has new films. She will be in the drama film Your Voice in My Head which is based on the memoir of British journalist Emma Forrest. She will play the lead character (Emma Forrest). She is also in the apocalypse-comedy film The End of The World. She will play as herself. She is supporting not only Wild Trout Trust and People Tree but also UNICEF and CAMFED. She also stated that she is a Christian in a BBC radio inerview. Emma also has light brown hair.

Grammar

In the first line, it says that Emma Watson was born on April 15th, 1990. But the grammar was incorrect; since it said "born 15 April 1990". Can somebody change this? I would myself, but I'm not signed in to Wikipedia.

It's the British dating style - the day comes first.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:19, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

"French grandmother"

I'm curious, is there any way to omit this claim of Watson having a French grandmother? One reliable source did report it, in 2007, but it hasn't been reported elsewhere before or since. I ask because, according to my always-impeccable original research, Watson has no actual French ancestry. Both of her grandmothers were born in England, and were not of French descent. Her paternal grandmother, Freda Duerre, got her last name from a German ancestor, Carl Gottlieb Durre. But Freda Duerre and her parents and grandparents were English by birth. Her maternal grandmother's ancestry is traced in this fairly accurate family tree. I think what has happened is that one of her grandmothers (paternal, likely) lives in France, or something along those lines. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 18:13, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

French Nationality - English Nationality: Doubt?

Hi everyone; just a thought that crossed my mind, trivial though it may seem. As I read the article I noticed it states as place of birth: Paris, France; however, it says "Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an English actress and model". In no place it states that she had received the English Nationality (even though this should be logical, since her parents and grandparents, as someone said in the talks, are English and that she had been living there since she was 6) or that she had left aside her French Nationality. Not having any knowledge whatsoever on English Nationality laws, I just found myself thinking that.

Sorry to bother.

Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gino A. Orsini (talkcontribs) 05:07, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, she is a British national, there's no such thing as an English national when it comes to nationality given via citizenship. Most English people either identify as English+British, just English/or British. When it comes to this, Wikipedia uses a mix of the aforementioned, English...or British, which is by broad community consensus at WP:UKNATIONALS. I hope that clarify's why she is called English, but you will find many people from England here that are called British too. But as for calling her French simply based on her birth-place and where she spent a few years of her life, that is a no I'm afraid. Emma has never had French citizenship, nor does she identify as French, so simply she is not French. She was not even entitled to French citizenship at birth, this being Europe and all'. --Τασουλα (talk) 12:23, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

stop deleting education details

in Britian you finish compulsory education at 16 (gcse's) Emma carried on the final two un-compulsory years (a levels) I wrote a great bit saying what she achieved and cited it all perfectly yet someone has deleted it. This is a major part of education in the uk (equivilewnt to the last two year of high school, which as I said in the UK, where Emma was educated is not compulsory) if she didnt have that she wouldn't have the qualifications for university as GCSE's are a level lower than university entry grades. Add this back in as it is important! and while your at it can this artical be semi protected so it don't happen again!

here is a link to the a level details http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1045609/Harry-Potter-star-Emma-Watsons-A-Level-hat-trick-Three-straight-As.html

and proof that education is only compulsory to 16 NOT 18 and that there are two lots of examinations http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/2997948.stm Mikala19 (talk) 23:38, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

What exactly does this have to do with Emma Watson? She is not notable for the education she has undertaken, but for being an actress. WP:TRIVIA. --Τασουλα (talk) 00:32, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

because it is a very important part of her education and with out her A levels she would be able to get to university. It is very important. its exactly like saying someone went to university after only completing there sophomore year in the states not possible it is part of her life therefore important GCSE'S are equivalent to sophomore year and A/s levels are equivalent Juniour year and A levels are equivalent to senior year

Mikala19 (talk) 09:06, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Your edits are hard to read, but I think you're actually arguing against your own case: You state that one cannot get into university without completing A-levels. So logically, if Watson went to university, she must have completed A-levels prior to that, and it's not necessary to mention this because it's a requirement of going to university in the first place? Chaheel Riens (talk) 18:50, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

what i said about university is true but my point is a very important detail has been missed and its not hard to have on the end that she got three A's at alevel took a gap year and went to university. I have dyslexia so my writing is not very good and difficult for others to understand here is a link

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1045609/Harry-Potter-star-Emma-Watsons-A-Level-hat-trick-Three-straight-As.html

Im just saying It is important part of her life and it should be there. but my point is not everyone would know it is a requirement to get in only those in britain or who would have read this therefore it tells the reader all the details and stuff Mikala19 (talk) 14:14, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

If the readers want to know the entry requriements for the UK's educational establishments, I'm sure there's a Wikipedia article that will help them understand far better than this one. Sorry, but I still don't think it's improtant. Chaheel Riens (talk) 15:11, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

'Star' Power

Ms. Watson has the notable distinction of being THE youngest person on the list of the current top twenty actors cumulative 'box office gross' films (unadjusted for inflation); her co-stars in the Potter series are not far behind her. These three, along with just Shia LaBeouf and Anne Hathaway, are the only actors under age 31 on the list of the top fifty actors. Due to the great success of the Potter series, and their youthful age/career so-far, only the trio have an AVERAGE gross exceeding $200 million per film (far exceeding all others), with Daniel Radcliffe's average just $20 million ahead of Watson's. Are these facts too 'trivial' to point out? See http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/?view=Actor&sort=sumgross&p=.htm And BTW, only eight women are on the list of the top fifty. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derfball (talkcontribs) 05:48, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Alma mater

Alma mater. This parameter is a more concise alternative to |education=, and will most often simply consist of the linked name of the last-attended higher education institution. It is usually not relevant to included either parameter for non-graduates, but article talk page consensus may conclude otherwise, as at Bill Gates. Watson's {{infobox person}} contains an impressive list of institutions in the alma_mater field, while the documentation here says only to list the last-attended one. Furthermore, there is no evidence in the article that she has graduated from any of these - although I may be mistaken, because I do not know the UK school system well - so I am inclined to delete the lot from the infobox until some proof of graduation can be given. At most, we should be including one school. The infobox is for concise summary of information, not an exhaustive treatment of everything she's ever done. Elizium23 (talk) 17:59, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

I have changed "alma_mater" to "education" because alma mater is commonly understood to be somewhere you have graduated. The rest of my rationale still applies. Elizium23 (talk) 22:02, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Watson has been more than an "exchange student" (visitor student) at Oxford, she attended two of its schools in her early life, so perhaps a general link to Oxford instead of the specific school there would be appropriate. Also, the reason we want to include her education in the infobox is because fans keep coming to add alma_mater anyway, and if we have it already there then, I believe, we can head off the creeping accretions that happen. Thoughts on "FHM Sexiest women list"?

Appropriate to include? If so, where? Happymelon 14:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

This is mostly to underscore my complaint below regarding the lead. According to our own article, FHM has a circulation of under 100,000 copies. It's basically a snazzier, more contemporary version of Playboy and is of little or no consequence except its readers. FHM and the likes have opinions on the looks of virtually any public woman that adheres to standard beauty criteria. How they choose to rank famous women should be of no more interest to Wikipedia than random gossip from People (circulation 3.5 million) or sideboob paparazzi extravaganzas from the Daily Mail.
Peter Isotalo 15:10, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Lead not up to standard

The current lead is not up to proper FA standards. As it stands, it reads more like a resume and doesn't even read like a biography. It focuses mostly on very specific facts like "grossed more than US$86 million", "audience of 5.2 million" or "In 2007, Watson announced her involvement". None of these are especially informative to the general reader. It's not so much a summary of an article as fairly random biographical facts strung together.

Also, I removed the "Sexiest female"-statements outright as WP:UNDUE. They're not even in article for crying out loud. Watson's sex appeal might be an very important aspect of her fame, but "Top 10 Sexiest"-lists don't go very far in confirming that. As far as I know, none of her major roles have touched on any kind of sex appeal, so the inclusion various hotness rankings (especially by modern Playboy-wannabes like FHM) seems quite gratuitous.

The Emma Watson Hoaxes After U.N Speech

The Emma Watson countdown hoax initiated by Rantic/SocialVEVO was covered by almost every news outlet in the world, and is still being talked about today, months later. 4chan also did a prank during the same time doing a RIP prank about her. All these were reported as 'backlash' or 'reactions' to her UN speech on gender equality.

MTV, Info Wars, CNN, BBC, Fox, RT, Reuters, Times, CBC...etc. all gave their opinion on Rantic's hoax. I'm not gonna stuff here with links, but here's the most recent one from this month about the September Emma hoax. It pretty much sums it up. Some news outlets say that this nude countdown hoax is what gave her UN speech the media spotlight. Credible news reports say up to 48 million people saw the countdown hoax within the 48 hours that it all lasted. Should this be added in the UN Speech section, maybe add a sentence in there about the backlash? http://www.vocativ.com/tech/hacking/rantic-emma-watson-nude-photo-hoax/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.249.241.179 (talk) 05:16, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

In this editor's opinion, no (and I have reverted another attempt to add this data). The media coverage notwithstanding, this was not a mere hoax; it was a premeditated publicity stunt. Wikipedia is not in the habit of validating publicity stunts—especially when written as if to congratulate them for getting our attention. —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 05:42, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
As the article stands now it says, that she was threated online for the speech. But the source of the threats heve been debunked and it was shown a dirt-campaign on her back to get attention via viral marketing. This does not make the threat on the person better or relatives it but it reveals, that it was not a threat as of a stalker or possible attacker but by a PR campaign. This should be noted for integrity of the article. 79.228.229.212 (talk) 11:55, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Where she studied is mentioned ("Alma mater"). I for one believe even that is pushing the envelope within the infobox but, since we mention "actress • model • activist" as her occupation, it speaks to her qualifications to be an activist (though very much peripherally).
According to the instruction page at Template:Infobox person, parameters are to be added when relevant. That she has a Bachelor's in English is not relevant in any way to her occupation (had it been civics-related and, therefore, specific to her activism and/or ambassadorship, that would be relevant) and violates WP:UNDUE.
Also, it's not always proper to compare Wiki articles to each other. Emma Watson is a featured article—though the criteria are tougher now and a sweep would uncover serious issues—while Evelyn Herlitzius is not. —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 🖖 21:59, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Not done: The NYTimes pieces spells it "unmagical". (link). Since it's a direct quote, we will spell it that way too. Neither un-magical nor unmagical are standard words, so no need for the {{sic}} template EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 19:00, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Please change "Watson attended the Dragon School as a child and trained as an actress at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. "

to "Watson attended the Dragon School as a child and the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts." Stagecoach is a children's extra-curricular drama club and does not provide any formal drama training to qualify anyone as an actor or actress. It would be like someone saying that Marcus Wareing trained as a chef by attending Home Economic classes.

Not done. The source for that sentence and its more fleshed-out version in the Early life section is here, which states, "Stagecoach is the country's biggest network of performing arts schools for children aged 4 to sixteen" and whose "lessons are much more about fostering children's development through dance, drama and singing". It is not a synthesis to presume that dancing, acting and/or singing "training" occurs. 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 19:47, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Make a new section for fashion?

On another note, is it a good idea to add a section to this article more focused on fashion? It seems like the Other Acting Work part is getting mixed in with the fashion which might not be the same. Or it could be. Just a thought. Darkemagik (talk) 21:57, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree. In the career section, I suggest splitting the "Other acting work" into: "Other acting work" and "Non-acting work" where we can write about her fashion work and advocacy.

Yeah, Emma Watson did quite alot of "fashioning". It'll be awesome if that could be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.68.23.33 (talk) 01:04, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
