Gah! Estates can be parliaments without being "General". The Estates of each of the provinces of the United Provinces, for instance, or the Estates of Languedoc, or the estates of Württemberg. Only in countries where varous provinces have their own estates would there be an Estates-General. john k 07:54, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Given the importance of the term "Estates" in this context, both in terms of as representative parliaments, and as part of the basic structure of old regime society, our articles Estates-General and Estates of the realm are deeply inadequate. john k 07:55, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

What about the estates of the Netherlands? See List of state leaders in 1747 to see what I mean. Tedernst 01:15, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Ah, now I see Estates-General of the Netherlands. This is complicated! Tedernst 01:19, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
