Someone skilled in the art of writing, could add a reference to philesight and torta and describe how they evolved from filelight ideas.

Something like this has actually been around for a looong time. I remember some program back in the 90s (for Windows) that did the exact same thing. It is called Scanner and was written by Steffen Gerlach. See
