Genus is contradictory[edit]

The main text suggests a different genus to the info box. If there's something fun going on here (eg controversy, reclassification), it should be explained. Dunno the answer myself 81.187.202.205 (talk) 02:42, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This cat truly is a member of Prionailurus, so I checked with MSW3. What the text means - but does not make clear - is that the original placement (19th cen.) of the F-H cat was in Felis, but all recent placements have been in Prionailurus. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Project Class B[edit]

I went ahead and rated this article as Project Class B - it's a pretty good, well-referenced, and quite thorough treatment of a felid about which little is known; and it's doubtful much more could be added about this reclusive animal. If a picture could be found, it might cement this rating a bit more. If someone in the Wiki Cats project disagrees with this action, I'm certainly not inflexible.
