About the ceasing of Production[edit]

Now, I'm not trying to make myself a fool here, and we all know that the Freestar and Monterey have ceased production. But I was curious about one thing; while Ford says the Freestar and Monterey stopped production due to poor sales, sales around the rest of the world for these minivans haven't been so bad. Get this; from January 2006 to October 2006, the new Freestar minivan had a sales increase of 72% in the United Arab Emirates. And they also said in another article that the Monterey had just came on sale in that country in early 2006. Both sources are from this site. [1] My question is that while there will be no more new Freestars & Montereys in America, what about the rest of the world? Well there was only one plant that produced them, located in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. This plant is the same plant as the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. There will be a replacement for the Windstar/Freestar around 2008 or 2009, but AFAIK this platform will no longer be produced. LSX 04:05, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

How about merging the 2004-2007 section from Mercury Monterey into this page? There is hardly any info on the Monterey van anyway, and with it's short production is there really a need for it to be on it's own page? The old Monterey car has nothing to do with the minivan but the name, I don't think they should be on the same page together anyway. --Sable232 03:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then why not merge all the other dozens of clones that have been sold over the years? If you'd rather have the unrelated Montereys on separate pages, then just split them into seperate articles like the Dodge Charger and Ford Fusion. IFCAR 00:44, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The downside I see is not with this specific case so much as other articles following this example with all clones. But if you want to merge it, the Monterey should at least have its own section of the article. IFCAR 22:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm concerned about this snowballing out of control too. Most GMC trucks are in the article for the Chevrolet on which they're based, and I think this is a similar case. The Tahoe article has a separate section for the Yukon, we can do the same here. In most cases where there are related vehicles, there is already a substantial article, so merging those wouldn't fly. --Sable232 03:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Tahoe article is an example of what shouldn't happen with a merge. The only separate section is for the Yukon Denali, and the other Yukon information and images are just scattered throughout as a sentance here and there among Tahoe info. IFCAR 12:48, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just merged the two articles together, there was almost nothing on the Monterey's page anyways. If everyone who has contributed to this article could pitch in and edit it to make it look better, so that way we dont have a repeat of what happened to the GMC Trucks page. Slowing Sales[edit]

This text seems a bit subjective and has little to do with the Freestar... 2008?[edit]

The header for the article states that the Windstar "went" out of production in "April 2008". I just checked the calendar, and sure enough it's still December of 2007. :) More importantly, this directly contradicts the rest of the article, which claims the line shut down in November of 2006. Merge into Ford Windstar ?[edit]

Seeing as this was largely a updated and rebadged 1999-2003 Windstar platform, this could probably do better as part of that article.
