Improving relations since 1985[edit]

Why were they bad before, some context is needed, and some sourcing as to why they were poor pre-1985 and better post, or is "improving" just one of those euphemisms used to show progress when none really is made? Without sources, it's all speculation, and WP:OR. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:46, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ambo Recall[edit]

What the hell does the ambassador smuggling cigarettes have to do with them recalling their ambassadors? Nothing, thats what. That sentence shoould be moved. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.252.4.21 (talk) 05:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diplomats[edit]

So far I have not been able to find a single mention from the BBC, the New York Times, or CNN of any recalls of any sort. From that I am forced to conclude that the entire news item is a fake and if no evidence is presented I intend to remove the offending section. Iuniper (talk) 07:00, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to call you out for paranoia, but I've just had a look on Google and I can find surprisingly little mention of it, apart from a single, solitary reprint in the Washington Times. All of the stories seem to be sourced back to that one AP article and the Tocqueville Connection reference, which seems a bit dodgy. So yes, quite strange; I'd expect to see a little more coverage, to be honest. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:15, 8 May 2009 (UTC).[reply]
As far as I can see, the story is true. I think the lack of English-language response is simply that people dont't pay much attention to Guinea, as well as the fact that the move seems so strange that no-one really knows what it means. I found several links from French-language sources [1], [2], [3], [4], including this one from a Senegalese newspaper (quoting AFP). Several of the sources give the names of the thirty ambassadors and their functions and/or other information not included in the press agency reports. I haven't been able to find any denial of the recalls, either by press agencies or other French-language sources, so I think we have to assume that the story is true. Lists of embassies (not duplicates)[edit]

There are links to two lists at the bottom of the article which more than one editor seem to have thought were duplicates - I don't think anyone is intentionally having a revert war here or anything. One is a list of diplomatic missions that other countries have within Guinea, and the other is a list of diplomatic missions that Guinea has in other countries. I am not arguing whether either of these lists should exist within wikipedia - but if they do, they are indeed separate and distinct, and both are reasonable to link from an article about Guinea's foreign relations. Just thought it should be explained since the edit summary box isn't long enough to give a full explanation - and the "duplication" may get removed again, since the page currently has high visibility.
