man, this is just another pointless drivel thought up by the mighty Chen. I think it should be merged with Chen's article, because it is not intellectually rigorous, has no impact other than for campaign purposes, has little follow-up since he said it, has not instigated major discussion within Taiwan or elsewhere(unlike Lee Teng-hui's theory of special country-to-country relationship). I was hoping to see something about KMT' Three stages of ruling China (軍政,訓政,民政), which actually had historial impact on the development of modern China and subsequent retreat to Taiwan, but found this pure crap instead. well...the DPP accepts this policy and it's been applied in the government (such as by adding "Taiwan" in parenthesis after "Republic of China" on all government websites). I think the significance is beyond a simple statement. This article should do a better job explaining how Four-stage Theory of the Republic of China as to do with the "popular sovereignty theory" promoted by the DPP.--Jiang 05:58, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

translation[edit]

"The Republic of China arrival to Taiwan. (Chinese: 中華民國來臺灣) (1945-1949)"

Wouldn't a better translation of 來 in this case be "coming to"? "Arrival to" sounds like something that happened in an instance, not something that took 4 years. Also, when I was learning Chinese, according to the books "dau" was translated as "arrive" while 來 was translated as "come". Readin (talk) 06:28, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on Chen's context.

到來 = arrive, per http://www.chinabaike.com/english/Dictionary/675278.html

來到 = come, type in "來" http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/Lexis/Lindict/

"來到 (come)" is the more common form. But since there is an ambiguity, I didn't want to cause editorial disputes so I just left it at that. If you are confident that this change will not be disputed, I am happy for the change.--pyl (talk) 07:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AFD[edit]

Per AFD discussion I took out two attempted references, that were just general book references with no page numbers and of course supporting nothing. I removed the content, tagged since 2009, that was plain original research. Any reintroduction or reversion of the material or references must be per WP:BURDEN. Lee's use of "Republic of China on Taiwan"[edit]

@Wildcursive: Thank you for improving this article as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge. Your recent additions are why I chose to ping you specifically. I hope you don't mind.

I found four video clips (uploaded by the Associated Press News Archive) of Lee Teng-hui's 1995 Cornell speech on YouTube, none of which capture him using the phrase "Republic of China on Taiwan." See [1] [2] [3] [4]. A Taiwan Television broadcast uploaded by an anonymous YouTube user did, and contemporary media coverage use the term without attributing it to Lee. Do you think that the statement "This term was first publicly and officially used in his speech at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, United States in June 1995," which has been tagged {{Dubious}} since May 2009, should be rephrased or removed due to WP:CV and WP:OR concerns? @Vycl1994: Thanks for your reminder! Sometimes people are just a little bit lazy.... Ha-ha... The original description was ok and I've added two sources, one official text and one acceptable media.
