Hugo Chavez, forced to show unveiled on ABC 'drones'

Hugo Chávez was forced to publicly display this Wednesday a copy of unmanned aircraft purchased from Iran, whose image and features were unveiled by ABC in its Monday Edition. The level of detail offered by this newspaper in relation to the operation of purchase and the investigation opened by the New York attorney on transactions that violate the regime of sanctions imposed on Iran, surprised the Venezuelan President.

Not to mention directly to ABC, Chávez appeared on television to deny that the alleged facilities for the drones at the base of Cavim-Maracay, are suspected of concealing any greater military use. And it took to quell rumors, that from this military base be presented live one of the unmanned Harpy, name given to the acquired version of the Iranian Mohajer-2. His purchase was announced in November of 2011, but so far the venezolonas authorities had not shown. Made it two days after ABC published several pictures of the Harpy and to report on its technical characteristics.

"Are going to turn Venezuela into a country power," said Chavez, referring to exports of military materiel that Caracas would like to perform from own production centres. It is the case of the drones, while the alleged factory built by the Iranians are only two hangars of size means that there's no production.

Chávez went on television presiding over a meeting with the main controls of the Bolivarian Armada force held in the Ministry of defence. During the broadcast, Chavez gave way to several controls from their respective sites. Thus the general Julio Morales Prieto, President of the company Anonima Venezolana de MIC (Cavim), appeared on screen to present the Harpy. It was stressed that, although this is an Iranian original design, Venezuelan engineers have adapted some functions like the possibility of night flights. He stressed that it does not attack, but only of monitoring mission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.125.7.212 (talk) 07:21, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
