Should there be an article about Southern Minnesota? Larger cities such as Faribault and Owatonna aren't really considered 'major' just because they have no 4-year school and are overshadowed by Mankato/Rochester, but even Northfield...? Mention perhaps notable colleges? Further discuss how Greater MN is composed of many different regions such as Central, Arrowhead, etc.

Talk about how big lakes and resorts are up North.

There's an article about Southeast Minnesota and other regions of Minnesota. These articles could use improving. Jonathunder 13:00, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Twin Cities Metro now a nine-county area? And what objective criteria should be used to list major outstate cities? Census SMSAs? Population of cities themselves? Kablammo 19:54, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What two counties would you add to the Metro? Wright, quite possibly, maybe either Isanti or Chisago. The seven-county description, however is consistent with Wikipedia. Furthermore, a map of the state of Minnesota and which part is Outstate would be nice. cliedl 23:35, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my facts are outdated. According to the US Census Bureau the MSP Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area consists of 11 Minnesota and 2 Wisconsin counties: Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, Washington and Wright Counties in Minnesota and Pierce and St.Croix Counties in Wisconsin. And a map would help. Kablammo 23:57, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greater Minnesota?[edit]

Does anyone besides me hate the term "Greater Minnesota"? I live outside of the Twin Cities metro area, and I cringe whenever I hear the term. When I hear it on t.v. (which is the only place I hear it), I quickly turn the channel. I believe that "Greater Chicago" means Chicago plus its suburbs, and the same is true for other cities. Is the term "greater" ever used anywhere else with a similar meaning to that in "Greater Minnesota"? I don't feel that Minnesota outside of the Twin Cities needs a name. Other states don't have names for the part of the state outside of the largest city. -- Nina, 4 November 2006

I had never heard the term Greater Minnesota until now. Outstate, that I have heard, but not Greater Minnesota. I believe you are correct, that "Greater <X>" usually refers to something outside of X. For example, many people will say they are going to Chicago when they may not actually set foot in Chicago, they are instead going to "Greater Chicago".--RLent 20:37, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a cities resident, i hear and use the term "outstate" all the time, and very rarely greater. If there is enough consensus, this article should be changes to "Outstate Minnesota". Chaztheweird 04:46, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
