Requested move 27 February 2015
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved to Gui (food) per request No evidence that Korean food is primary. Gui (disambiguation) moved to Gui. Interested editors may merge DABs at their leisure. Mike Cline (talk) 21:56, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Gui → Gui (food) – The following post was incorrectly posted to this talk page due to confusion with graphical user interface. Additionally, we do not have a wp:primary topic here, and so the dab page Gui (disambiguation) should be moved here and merged with GUI (disambiguation) to eliminate this problem as GUI is already a redirect to graphical user interface as stated above. --Relisted. Here is the post:
Short for Graphical User Interface, the GUI was first developed at Xerox PARC by Alan Kay, Douglas Engelbart, and a group of other researchers in 1981. Later Apple introduced the Lisa computer, the first commercially available computer on January 19, 1983. A GUI uses windows, icons, and menus to carry out commands such as opening files, deleting files, moving files, etc. and although many GUI Operating Systems are operated by using a mouse, the keyboard can also be used by using keyboard shortcuts or arrow keys. Unlike a command line operating system like Unix or MS-DOS, GUI Operating Systems are much easier for end-users to learn and use because commands do not need to be known or memorized. Because of their ease of use, GUI Operating Systems have become the dominant operating system used by end-users today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhrj.azm (talk • contribs) 12:56, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support merge the two dab pages together, and make "gui" a dab page location -- 70.51.200.101 (talk) 07:00, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- oppose. no confusion. this is korean food. user not like korean food, do not go to korean page. at top of page it says there is page on graphical user interface in computing, so user can click if he is lightheaded. korean food is most important topics. just imperialisms by yellow scare california type nominator. Togashi Yuuta (talk) 06:36, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- "just imperialisms by yellow scare california type nominator." - can closing admin please caution this editor for personal abuse of the nom? In ictu oculi (talk) 11:34, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support - Gui means a graphical user interface, and it doesn't always have to be capitalised. Best to have this as a dab page. — Amakuru (talk) 14:08, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Most unsure on this and think it needs more discussion. For example, would guee be a better title for the Korean food article? Unconvinced that the two DABS should merge, one is quite long already. Andrewa (talk) 18:48, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. GUI already redirects to graphical user interface. This is no different than apple or cookie. -- Calidum 19:18, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
- Well, cookie and apple are English words, this is Korean, so it is different. It is not a native food to English-speaking localities, so can be disputed as to being primary or not just because it's a food. -- 70.51.200.101 (talk) 03:17, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. I think this is a good place to apply our policy on differentiating titles by varying capitalization, which is WP:DIFFCAPS. GUI should take you to Graphical User Interface, but gui should stay right here. Red Slash 20:55, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
- But absolutely merge the DAB pages Red Slash 01:32, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support "Gui" is used only in brackets even in Korean tourism books, Gui the composer gets more hits; so the base gui should be a dab or redirect to a dab. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:29, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support per nom (no primary topic for "gui") and support a merge of the DAB pages. — AjaxSmack 05:34, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
