Untitled[edit]

I remember reading somewhere that Whoopi Goldberg wanted to be on Star Trek so she approached the producers and they created the character of Guinan specifically for her. ShutterBugTrekker 20:42, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

" At first the creators did not think they could create a role suitable for such a highly rated actress " --until they realized they were talking about Whoopee Goldberg? Lol

One story I read had it that Whoopi was with LeVar Burton when he called the producers about finding her a role. The Producers reaction when he handed the phone to her "Year very funny" thinking it was Burtons wife.

format[edit]

Far be it for me to change something if there is a well-established precedent for these listings, but I feel like it would be more "encyclopedic" to note that this character is played by Goldberg at the beginning rather than at the end.

I like to mention that in the episode "Q who?" from the second season, Q and Guinan seems to have an old quarrel, and Q mentions that he/it has some unfinished business with her back from 2000 years back. So she must be older than 700 years

===2 centuries is not 2,000 years, it's 200 :)

Shouldn't some mention be made of Guinan's appearance? I remember Q commenting that Guinan "is not who she appears to be. She is an imp." And as we know from Voyager, Q's one redeaming quality is that he is not a liar. Kwyjibear 19:28, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Written in-universe, needs to be fixed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.212.216.106 (talk) 20:32, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Imaginary Friends[edit]

In the episode "Imaginary Friends", Guinan admints to having a very eccentric imaginary friend - Perhaps someone can look this up and add it to the article. Many would consider an imaginary friend an important character detail. Tewner 09:20, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent restoration[edit]

I thought it'd be good to create a subsection on the talk page to discuss the current expansion efforts. I've tagged the article as under construction so that someone doesn't preemptively nominate it for deletion before we've had a chance to expand it. I'm also about to add the various sources I've got that I think might have something that could add to the article - I'll go through them tomorrow and remove the ones I can't find anything in. Miyagawa (talk) 22:07, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also going to get the article moved to Guinan (Star Trek), since there's no need for the further disambiguation (if there was an episode called "Guinan" then it'd warrant it, but that's not the case). Miyagawa (talk) 22:08, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking around for a promo photo to use in the infobox, and came across this from Goldberg's first Star Trek convention: [1]. I thought best to post it here so as not to lose it, since it talks about her wanting to appear as Guinan in Discovery. Miyagawa (talk) 22:26, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve just reviewed it, passed - but the “appearances” section in particular resembles a fan trivia section which should be rewritten as prose with heavy emphasis on sourced material which demonstrates the character’s importance in the parent subject, which are the tv shows in which the character has appeared. Edaham (talk) 00:19, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I'm aiming to get the casting section fleshed out today, which will show a real world point of view. Appearances will be rewritten into prose within the next few days at most. Miyagawa (talk) 11:07, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the last two paragraphs of the "Appearances" section appear to consist largely of original content and may not be appropriate to remain in the article. I recommend removal. Alika|Alex (talk) 08:16, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Guinan (Star Trek)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Guinan (Star Trek)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 04:23, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speculative text of limited relevance to the article[edit]

The last two paragraphs of the "Appearances" section would seem to me to be speculative fan theories about the events of Star Trek Generations. I think these could be deleted, not least as they have limited relevance to the character of Guinan, but also as they are decidedly unencyclopaedic, uncited and would seem to be based on opinion or original research.
