Oenpelli has been renamed, so should this page.

[edit]

West Arnhem Shire, the Northern Territory Government and the Australian Federal Government now refer to Gunbalanya as 'Gunbalanya' or occasionally 'Gunbalanya (Oenpelli)'.

This page should be moved to Gunbalanya and Oenpelli redirected to it rather than the other way around. A redirection should also be created from Kunbarllanjnja (an alternative spelling which has been used) to Gunbalanya.

I have already commented on the Kunbarllanjnja Community Government Council redirection that it should redirect to the shire which it was merged into, West Arnhem Shire.

Can anyone give a good reason why these changes should not be made? Djapa Owen (talk) 13:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Date of town name change

[edit]

The NT Place Names register says that the town name was changed in 2001.[1] Other sources say it was when the mission was closed in 1975. It would be good to clear this up. Potentially it's a matter of official and unofficial names.
