  • I added the following Template Messages. The article appears done for advertising and publicity, rather than conforming to wikipedia standards. Also note, on one of Hans Florin's websites [1] listed at the homepage is "Wikipedia on Hans".
  • No sources for claims; 2 external links are POV (Hans's own websites); article focused solely on the Nose records, thus unballanced...--N88I (talk) 07:15, 1 February 2009

Fact Checking[edit]

I found this article and am interested in cleaning it up. I don't have the same issues with it that a previous editor did. This article needs citations, so I've added tags to show where those can be added but not all may be necessary. I didn't see any WP:PEACOCK or any evidence of WP:COI but please feel free to add inline tags if I missed these. I also didn't see fansite material. I believe the subject meets WP:NOTABILITY and added sources from both the SF Chronicle and New York Times, which should satisfy that requirement. -- Uwishiwazjohng (talk) 23:07, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed my fact-checking on this article and removed all issues to address most of the problems above. I am removing the templates above. Specifically, to address the problems mentions
  • External links are not a problem since they are not used as references
  • I see no evidence of this being done for advertising or publicity but user above may not understand WP:ADVERT
  • Focus on Nose records is unfortunate and the article could be improved by adding additional information but this seems to mirror the career of the subject.

Notability[edit]

Article seems full of WP:PEACOCK and, generally, embellishments, especially an unnecessarily thorough and discussion about The Nose in the main section of the article.....the hyper focus on The Nose makes it look like Hans wanted this encyclopedic listing to publicize his speedclimbing on The Nose, rather than providing a balanced report on his accomplishments.

These "records" they all claim are unofficial totally. No judges, timers, sanctioning entities, etc. As such, I think much of the content is hearsay and WP:NOTABILITY. These speedclimbing records are not a sanctioned sport. Hearsay record-claims are not encyclopedic in nature. I think a 1-2 sentence article, and link to his website, are more than enough. Or a deletion of the article. Wikipedia is being used to promote him. I'd do an editor request for help shortly.Everestrecords (talk) 10:09, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It sounds like you have some ideas to fix the article. In that case, I encourage you to do so. The wonderful think about Wikipedia is that anyone can edit it, fix problems, correct errors. Never be afraid to be bold and make the changes yourself. If you went too far, someone will patch it up. Or if you don't go far enough, someone can come in and remove more. Expect that others will tweak your wording endlessly, that is how it works here, we all pitch in. If you know the material and feel you can be neutral and fair about presenting the info in a better way, you should feel empowered to just do it. That is how we fix things. If you like, make the changes and ping me on my talk page if you want me to look at it afterwards, but I'm sure you will do fine. Dennis Brown |  | © | WER 13:42, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
