Famous people section

[edit]

I don't think Sildakongen is worth listing as a famous person. The man is hardly famous beyond county borders. Locally, he is more known as an eccentric than an "entertainer"; or "master mariner", as his profession as master mariner does not make him worthy of this list; and the title of "herring king" is both ridiculous and confusing for pretty much everyone except the population of Haugesund. The title of a joke more than anything, and does not suit the tone of a serious Wikipedia article. --80.202.176.15 (talk) 01:29, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but I have removed the whole list as original research since there were no clear inclusion critera. Listing "Famous" people is a highly subjective exercise that has no room in an encyclopedia. Rettetast (talk) 14:27, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on Haugesund. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Merge proposal: Merge Haugesund (town) back to the main article here

[edit]

A separate article on the main settlement of Haugesund muncipality, Haugesund (town) was created in June 2020, with most of the content added in October.

I am unconvinced that a separate article on the town of Haugesund vs. the municipality of Haugesund is needed. The "town" of Haugesund is a designated built-up area ("tettsted") used by the Norwegian Statistics bureau for some statistical tabulations. However, the town itself has no separate local government or official identity. I see no reason why the town and municipality cannot be covered in the same article. As the article stands, this page looks like a content fork. Indeed, much of the content in this article was copied straight from the article on the municipality Haugesund. Such articles have some undesirable effects since information about the location, the history, and the infrastructure ends up duplicated in the two articles, making it more tedious to maintain two articles rather than one article. Readers are forced to click to get to the second article.

I therefore propose merging the two articles together again. Sjakkalle (Check!) 20:56, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
