Titles of operas[edit]

Is there a Wikipedia standard for the language used in links to operas? In this one I have made the links English when Nash was in a production sung in English, e.g. the BNOC ones, and in the original when he was singing in the original, as at Covent Garden or Glyndebourne. This is logical, I think, but it means that e.g. Wagner's comic opera appears in the article both as The Mastersingers and Die Meistersinger (though both of course link to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). I did, and received this advice:

I think standardization is best so that the reader knows you are talking about the same work. You could simply give the foreign language title in both cases, but use a (sung in English) parenthical note or even a footnote if prefered. Or you could say something like this (I'm making up details obviously): 'he made his debut as Walther in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in an English production at the New York City Opera'. Later you could say 'He sang Walther in the original German at the Deutsche Oper Berlin'. Etc. Hope this helps.4meter4 (talk) 23:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
