Book II is lousy[edit]

The first Cygnus X-1 part is intense, fast-paced, harrowing. Just the way entering a black hole could in fact be. This second book is lousy. I guess touring got the best of them. If I was Terry Brown, I would have been ashamed to sit behind the mixing board for this one. This album as a whole is good...Strangiato, The Trees...but Book II is a poor sequel. 65.248.164.214 (talk) 16:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay, but what does that have to do with the article? MFNickster (talk) 00:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Good point...I was not in my right mind while writing. I'm sorry. 65.248.164.214 (talk) 16:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

I've been through black holes before and Book II, while not containing all of the wisdom found in The Revised New Syllabus, is quite factual in its description and sonic representation of what Valhalla is actually like. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.57.126.132 (talk) 05:32, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

track times[edit]

The overall track time for Cygnus is 18:04. In the article, times are also listed for each section (movement) of the song. Someone left out the time for the "Apollo" section. I thought I could deduce this by adding up each section time and subtracting from the track time total (18:04). However adding them all together results in over 18:00, so that means all section times are suspect. I lost my Hemispheres jacket so I can't check on this. Please fix.Bobroberts248 (talk) 11:42, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I've done further research by checking the back cover of the US CD and listening to the track. It turned out that the total time listed on the back cover is incorrect, for it should be 18:08. Also, the time for the Apollo section is missing because, it seems, they preferred to put the total time of Apollo + Dionysus. But if one listens to the song, they will notice Apollo runs for exactly 2 minutes. So, the correct times are:

  1. "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres" – 18:08 on CD/18:07 on vinyl
    • I: "Prelude" – 4:29/4:30
    • II: "Apollo" Bringer of Wisdom - 2:30/2:30
    • III: "Dionysus" Bringer of Love – 2:36/2:36
    • IV: "Armageddon" The Battle of Heart and Mind – 2:55/2:52
    • V: "Cygnus" Bringer of Balance – 5:02/5:00
    • VI: "The Sphere" A Kind of Dream – 1:06/1:09

I liked the way times were listed for La Villa Strangiato, where starting times were used instead of running times. I found it very convenient while listening to the song. So I did the same to Cygnus, by adding the times listed above (and double-checking it with the song itself, at least on CD). If someone prefers the traditional format, please, for the sake of standardization, don't just simply undo my edit; instead, use the above listed times and change La Villa's as well. --MrIsland (talk) 02:49, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Track/Section titles[edit]

Some of the section titles under Side two don't seem to be capitalized correctly (such as "To sleep, perchance to dream..."). Shouldn't it be "To Sleep, Perchance to Dream..."? This one along with the word "Theme" in III. and XI. Also, shouldn't IX. be "Never Turn Your Back on a Monster!"? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maximus23623 (talk) 16:08, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

I've checked my library and noticed that in Rush al the songs and album titles are capitalized, save the conjuctions "of" and "and". So, the album titles, and songs should be posted that way. Anyways, that goes for this album, since Rush uses to put different font styles and structures in the covers. Nickatt (talk)
