Visitor numbers[edit]

The article currently states "The same year, the gallery was shortlisted for the Arts Fund Prize in recognition of its outstanding work in engaging new and diverse audiences taking yearly visitor figures from 55,000 up to 320,000." This is referenced to Dimmer, Sam (1 June 2010). "Lord Mayor Backs Herbert Campaign". Coventry Evening Telegraph (Nuneaton Edition). p. 8.  . I assume it refers to this article, but it doesn't seem to mention visitor number or the prize. I've found another source which mentions the prize, and one which has some conflicting info on visitor numbers so I think the Coventry Telegraph source can be removed altogether. Any objections? How much did Herbert donate to fund the museum?[edit]

The Herbert's own webpage on its history gives a sum of £100,000, but the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography says £200,000. As the ODNB is not freely available to everyone, the relevant sentence from the source is "[Herbert's] generosity extended to funding a covenant of £25,000 for the rebuilding of Coventry Cathedral, and he donated £200,000 for the construction of a new art gallery and museum, named after him." Is the second source not just giving the total amount over the years? The first source says £100000 in 1938 and another £100000 in 1954.Perhaps clarify in the article total amount given and the amounts given in different years.RafikiSykes (talk) 19:14, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Yep, I reckon that's the situation and this should make things clear. Nev1 (talk) 19:29, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Collections[edit]

Some work has begun in this article on describing the main permanent collections of The Herbert. I've tagged the collections section "incomplete" because there is more work to do here: coverage of the collections, preferably accompanied by illustrations and links to objects and articles of particular interest, is one of the main areas of encyclopedic interest for a museum and art gallery. I may be able to add some of the necessary material myself, but I hope others (including GLAM/HAGAM members!) may be able to fill out some of this. mooncow 12:04, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
