Paragraph with BrdU is confusing[edit]

Cells can integrate BrdU in newly synthesized DNA as a substitute for thymidine. When BrdU is integrated into DNA, it is supposed that the bromine deforms the minor groove so that Hoechst dyes cannot reach their optimal binding site. Binding of Hoechst dyes is even stronger to BrdU-substituted DNA; however, no fluorescence ensues.

once saying it cannot reach binding site, then saying the binding is even stronger? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brainstudent87 (talkcontribs) 09:17, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New text[edit]

The text was expanded and provided with additional images and references. However, the readability needs to be improved. And the conformity of the references must be checked.Crenim (talk) 16:30, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eponym[edit]

I presume the stains are named for Hoechst AG, but I'm loathe to add this without a source. Anyone fancy digging up something on the etymology? GeeJo (t)(c) • 20:37, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are - and Hoechst is numbering all their compounds so this dye is the 33258th compound made by Hoechst// that went into the Hoechst compound library Iridos (talk) 21:20, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Structure[edit]

According to the Aldrich catalog the structure is missing a nitrogen - the leftmost ring should be based on Piperazine, not on Piperidine. I'll see if I can supply an svg graphic instead of this low-res pixel one. This also makes more sense considering this should be a single compound, as there would exist two Enantiomers of the compound currently shown. Iridos (talk) 21:20, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is an error, nitrogen should be, enantiomers no.--P99am (talk) 07:52, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Bisbenzimide be merged into Hoechst stain. Any useful content in the Bisbenzimide article can easily be combined with this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.119.202.1 (talk) 20:43, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
