Please only make absolutely neccessary changes such as additional information and the corrections of misleading and erroneous information. The language in the recent editing is awkward and unneccessary. Furthermore, some important words and phrases have been omitted. In simple terms: do not edit for what is already there just for the hell of it, just because you have nothing to add. Thank you. -Jerry Cargill www.cargillcontemporary.com

Why is this under Holga camera / why is there a redirect from Holga? This seems a bit nuts - 'camera' is obvious from the article and not precedented by other writeups I can see.

You're right I think. I'll move it. --Clngre 13:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removed "(perhaps a corruption of the Cantonese phrase ho gwong, meaning “very bright”)", there is no evidence to support this. Please leave out of article until a citation has been found. --Corpse1 21:50, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added "ho gwong" back into the article. I found it on a lomography website, there was no information however about the language and I don't know for sure whether or not it's in Cantonese so I'm not going to put that back in until I can be sure about the language. --ISeeDeadPixels 19:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Holga Chinese name[edit]

According to exhibition Cameras Inside-Out, the Chinese name of Holga should be "猴哥". It was produced by a company named "香港 (Hong Kong)宇宙 (cosmos)電子 (electron)". Here is a Chinese blog talking about that. --Dobs 11:16, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Image sensor size??"[edit]

Holga is a medium format (6x6) film camera and has no "Image sensor". It has, however, a film frame and roll mechanism for those mad enough to use one --Roy 19:03 11 July 2007 (CEST)

Junk external links[edit]

The best external link was feeble, the majority were mere retailers. Holgadirect.com, holgacamera.com, holgamods.com, holgainspire.com, holgatoycamera.com, hesomagazine.com/photographic/toy-cameras -- I've removed the lot from the list of "external links".

I note that much of this article is sourced to such websites and that of the "Lomography" marketing outfit. That's unsuitable too. Where are the independent, reliable sources? -- Hoary (talk) 10:29, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Return to Production[edit]

To anyone who can help me update the information on this article, I feel it is very important to add that the Holga 120 series returned to production in 2017 or 2018. All information below is at time of writing, May 2020.

While I have only seen this information mentioned in a single place, an article by the South China Morning Post (Article "The Holga story: a cheap plastic camera made in Hong Kong and how it became a cult classic" by Manami Okazaki, published 19th May 2017, updated 24th May 2017), I have seen a steady stream of new Holga 120 models for sale on Ebay, Amazon, and other retailers. A bit of searching showed me that the importer and primary retailer in the US is a website called Freestyle Photographic Supplies at Freestylephoto.com where they also have a bit of information, but little that is useful. The models for sale are the 120WPC (Wide-Angle Pinhole model), 120GCFN (Glass lens, color flash), and the standard 120N in black or white.

According to the above mentioned article in the South China Morning Post, these are being produced by a company called "Sunshine", however Freestyle and all western retailers I have found currently list the manufacturer as Holga. The article would also indicate that they are once again made in Hong Kong, while previously the original production had been moved to Guangdong in 1998. According to the current info on Freestyle, the original molds for the camera may have been destroyed, however they did purchase all other manufacturing equipment and redeveloped the molds at the new company.

I would be very interested to learn more about this, however sources are limited, and I am struggling to find information on any English language websites. PolarisOutThere (talk) 01:29, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
