@Dsimic: do you have a source (or two) that indicates that Multicast snooping is a synonym for IGMP snooping. This source indicates that multicast snooping is something different. ~Kvng (talk) 17:22, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hello! It all depends on the context, the paper you've linked describes a CPU cache coherency mechanism, while "multicast snooping" may also refer to snooping a multicast protocol in a computer network, as described here and here. I'm so glad you've brought this up, and IMHO it would be the best to turn the Multicast snooping redirect into a disambiguation page that would refer to both meanings. How about that? — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 10:15, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think that the source I supplied represents an important use of the term. The main thing I found in a search for "multicast snooping" was a lack of results. So I'm worried that we're creating new terminology here. Thanks for supplying your sources. Your first source defines "multicast snooping" as a general term that could describe IGMP snooping or PIM snooping. Your second source defines "multicast IGMP snooping" (and I have no objection if you want to create a redirect for that term) but I don't see a "multicast snooping" mentioned. Based on the first source, we could create a disambiguation though the disambiguation would not be particularly useful since we have no coverage of PIM snooping. The alternative is to delete the Multicast snooping redirect. I have reverted the synonym claim in this article until that can be substantiated. ~Kvng (talk) 15:16, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
