Hello, anyone know where I can find an .svg of the iOS 15 logo? Mudkipdev (talk) 19:29, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering

[edit]

Is there any WP:RS to support that All the devices that supported iOS 13 and iOS 14 also support iOS 15? Because I haven't found any. 92.29.168.243 (talk) 20:00, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apple's page for iOS 15 lists, as the supported devices:
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st generation)
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPod touch (7th generation)
And Apple's page for iOS 14 lists, as the supported devices, the same set. I'd say an OS supplier is, at a technical level, the most reliable source for information about what machines the OS supports.
For the benefit of those who trust first-party information only after it's been repeated by some third party, we have a MacRumors story and a 9to5Mac story. Guy Harris (talk) 20:26, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming that it is rumoured that the iPhone 6S and all older phones doesn't support iOS 15, why is it still supported. I'm confused. Williamwang363 (talk) 21:32, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"why is it still supported" Because the rumors were wrong. Guy Harris (talk) 21:49, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I get it now, but the rumour that mentioned that iOS 15 won't be supported on older iPhones including the iPhone 6S was sourced from Macrumors [1]. But the rumour was later proved to be wrong after the WWDC 2021 as shown from Apple's WWDC 2021 event event [2]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Williamwang363 (talkcontribs) 00:15, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So even "sourced" rumors are just that - rumors. Even if a trusted site publishes the rumor, don't treat it as a fact. Guy Harris (talk) 01:10, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I watched WWDC 21, and though I don't have a beta of iOS 15, I did not hear them say anything specifically about Windows and Android in the section about FaceTime links, so I would assume the feature is available to other operating systems as well.

I propose removing the "Windows and Android" part and replacing it with "other operating systems". Mudkipdev (talk) 20:54, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Release Date

[edit]

The Wikipedia said IOS 15 is expected to be released later in 2021. But when I access the website. It says coming this Fall. Being released later this year could be misinterpreted to winter of 2021-2022 (December, January, February.) On the other hand, this Fall obviously mean September, October, November of 2021 since everyone in the whole wide world uses a Gregorian calendar.

It’s common knowledge taught in school that December, January, February are winter months when snow falls and people celebrate Christmas and New Years.

March, April, May are Spring months when flowers bloom and people Find Easter eggs.

June, July, August are summer months when temperatures are very hot and people jump in the pool.

And lastly, September, October, November are autumn months when leaves turn to different colors and people celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving.

My point is why not change the release date to Fall 2021 instead of Coming later this year? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.244.83.111 (talk) 01:31, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"On the other hand, this Fall obviously mean September, October, November of 2021 since everyone in the whole wide world uses a Gregorian calendar." However, not everyone in the whole wide world lives in the Northern Hemisphere; in November of 2021, it will be Spring in most of Africa, most of Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, etc..
Perhaps it's obvious, given that Apple are headquartered in the Northern Hemisphere, that they meant "Northern Hemisphere fall". There do not yet appear to be iOS 15 preview pages available on, for example, the Australian and Brazilian Apple sites, so we don't yet know how they will phrase it, but I seem to remember at least one preview page on the Australian site saying, last year, something other than "this Fall" or even "this Autumn". Guy Harris (talk) 03:00, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Simple. Per MOS:SEASONS, using seasonal names are discouraged for the very reasons stated by Guy Harris. redspartatalk 07:32, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We had this same discussion last year over at Talk:iOS 14. Nothing will change. Admanny (talk) 19:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

“However, not everyone in the whole wide world lives in the Northern Hemisphere” And not all countries except Western countries use Anno Domini System. For example, in India, it’s year 2077–2078. [1] Even if Wikipedia is written in English. India uses English too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.244.83.111 (talk) 21:54, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So? Guy Harris (talk) 22:01, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What's the big deal with India when you're clearly from Maryland? Admanny (talk) 22:47, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And what’s wrong with using “Coming this Fall” since I’m living in Maryland? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.244.83.111 (talk) 00:36, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I.e., Wikipedia should offer a template that attempts to geolocate the IP address being used to access the page and selects, based on whether that is in the northern or southern hemisphere, one of the two arguments to the template, with a third argument being used if the address couldn't be geolocated, e.g. {{season name | northern=Fall | southern=Spring | unknown=Q3}}, and that would be used in cases such as this? Guy Harris (talk) 00:48, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That would clearly be interpreted as censorship. Offering different information due to geolocation is prohibited, and such a template will never be made. Regardless, as we discussed last year, MOS:SEASONS takes precedent, and it will stay that way. Admanny (talk) 00:56, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we use 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, 4th quarter to specify the release date like all Banks Did? 69.244.83.111 (talk) 20:31, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding an [advert] template?

[edit]

New Wikipedian so asking for input before the change: I think we should add the Advert template to the page with its current wording. Some of the feature descriptions contain an overt promotional tone, e.g. "you can finally just ask Siri [...]". Should I add it? Any reason not to? --TomNormanCohen (talk) 09:10, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think it can be tackled soon. I removed items that seemed too NOTCHANGELOG-y to me. Give me a bit to go over it. Best, WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 01:03, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've made some major edits. @TomNormanCohen: let me know what you think. WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 01:23, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

[edit]

I suggest that the update history be placed after the features, as with the Mac OS articles. Maybe do the change to the other articles too. --93.42.69.104 (talk) 13:27, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect in chart

[edit]

No. “Universal Control” currently not supported on iPhones and supports only iPad. “Keyboard brightness” not supported on iPhone and supports iPad with keyboard like Magic Keyboard other Bluetooth keyboards with backlight. Does you agrees with me? Usernogood (talk) 22:19, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you have summarised that correctly as of today. Godihrdt (talk) 19:05, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Problem in betas info box

[edit]

Can you replace references in iOS 15.4 5 beta info box? Thanks! Usernogood (talk) 00:57, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean do something such as this? Guy Harris (talk) 01:39, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes is it. Thank you. Usernogood (talk) 12:38, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

“Support status Supported”

[edit]

Given the recent release of iOS 16, is this still true? My (admittedly inexperienced) understanding is that iOS 15 may now be in a state where it is still expected to receive security-related updates, just not new feature-related updates. For precisely how long this will remain the case is not clear to me, which I believe is by design, as Apple is typically mum on the subject of how long they’ll continue to support incrementally deprecated versions of their OS’s, as I understand it. Can anyone point me to some official and unambiguous source regarding iOS 15’s support status at the moment, or (even better) into the future? 98.51.131.98 (talk) 20:19, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As you said, "Apple is typically mum on the subject", which translates as "Apple typically releases no official and unambiguous statements regarding any OS's support status at the moment, much less into the future".
Anybody else's statement, as it doesn't come from Apple, isn't "official" - it's just speculation.
So should we be saying anything about the support status of any Apple operating system, unless Apple's said something bout the support status? (And should we trust Apple never to change their mind?) Guy Harris (talk) 20:45, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I’m fine with Apple changing its mind. (Obviously iOS 15 isn’t going to be supported forever.) I’m just wondering whether the Wikipedia page for it should state (unqualified) that it’s supported when (as best as anyone can tell) that’s only semi unofficially true. 98.51.131.98 (talk) 21:29, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps without a reliable source we shouldn't say anything. Guy Harris (talk) 21:34, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right, that’s what I’ve subtly been attempting to suggest all along. I don’t know who decided to assert such a thing unequivocally, but I can’t say I agree with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.51.131.98 (talk) 22:39, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unconventional wording style

[edit]

@2601:681:0:1E80:E483:6186:81BF:452E: Could you please clarify who is "they" in these diffs? 1 2 3 What do you mean by "they say goodbye"? It is not conventional. Please see MOS:VOCAB. — B. L. I. R. 02:48, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
