Comments[edit]

This article is POV and doesn't discuss the full history of the act. Tfine80 29 June 2005 03:52 (UTC)

I'm inclined to agree, and it could also use a general cleanup. Marked it. =\ Viserys89 01:16, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

I erased the illegal immigration template- the quality needs to be better before we link it to so many things through a template--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 15:04, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

What is US Family Unity? I've never heard of this group. There are plenty more noteworthy groups working to change these provisions, What merits mention of this one? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.168.41.182 (talk) 13:29, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I too question the mention of US Family Unity. Neither Google nor Google News has even a single hit on them. Tomday (talk) 23:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Merge from[edit]

I propose merging Immigration and Nationality Act Section 287(g) into this article. That is a short article on one section of this legislation. This article is short enough that adding the material would not make it overly long. They are obviously closely related topics.   Will Beback  talk  20:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't think this should be merged. 287(g) is a whole topic unto itself -- it just needs someone to flesh it out. The 287(g) program is becoming a bigger and bigger issue in immigration law, so I think it'll grow large enough to need its own topic ultimately. Just an opinion from a wiki-n00b. Thanks! Cqsmith65 (talk) 18:18, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Such a merger would not prejudice a future split again if the topics grew large enough to merit two articles. But at the moment the 287(g) article is only one paragraph long.   Will Beback  talk  20:30, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
The 287(g) program gets enough attention that it deserves its own page. Tomday (talk) 23:38, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Abbreviation[edit]

Is the correct abbreviation "IIRIRA" or "IIRAIRA"? The first paragraph of the article uses both. DarthTaper (talk) 22:27, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Both are used, and I've updated the article to reflect this. TJRC (talk) 18:20, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Section 287(g) and relations between federal and lower levels of government[edit]

The content in this section is factually incorrect because the Dept. of Homeland Security wasn't even founded until 2002. 173.149.124.241 (talk) 05:12, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you; I've fixed it. 287(g) opens with "the Attorney General may enter into a written agreement with a State, or any political subdivision of a State..." Not sure how "Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security" got in there. TJRC (talk) 06:03, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
