Notable Citizens; Eh?[edit]

First off, how do you determine whether or not a citizen is notable? In my own opinion, I would have to say that Samuel Bishop(painter), Amy Bishop Anderson(leading Neroscientist/inventor of the neurological Computer & Portable Cell Drive) and Elizabeth Howe(who was hung in the Salem Witch Trials) should be here a well! Also, if The Fools are good enough to have their guitarist listed on the page for Peabody, than it should be noted in this article that the group start in Ipswich! =.= I'll collect my sources later, but I wanted to put the argument on the table so that someone else with sources could come out of the wood-work.

See WP:BIO for guidelines on whether an individual is "notable". Formally, those are the guidelines for whether someone is notable enough to have a separate article about them; but convention on these city/town pages seems to be that the same criteria apply for the "notable residents" sections. It seems that the criteria for Notable Citizens should be less strong than the criterion required to have a "separate article". It could be notable that a certain town is the hometown of, say 5 NFL linebackers, even if individually they do not warrant a separate article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuvosi (talkcontribs) 18:56, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

End-article confusion[edit]

There seems to be a confusion as to what is a reference, what a link, and what a see also (which is missing). At some point I will do a little work that should help clarify it and provide examples. I hope I will not have to finish it all myself.Dave (talk) 16:44, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

"Trivia

  • The town of Innsmouth, a setting for several stories of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, is a close neighbor in the stories - many inhabitants of Innsmouth do their shopping in Ipswich.
  • Ipswich is the setting for the 2006 film The Covenant.
  • The Feoffees of the Grammar School of Ipswich are the only feoffees in the United States, probably."

Ipswich, Suffolk[edit]

I'm surprised to see there is no mention of the origin of the town name. The Winthrop family had roots in Suffolk explaining the name, I will have a look for some sources but any help would be appreciated. Zarcadia (talk) 19:07, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't said what you think is wrong with the coordinates in the article, and they appear to be correct. If you still think that there is an error, you'll need to provide a clear explanation of what it is. Deor (talk) 18:09, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A town often becomes a ghost town because the economic activity that supported it has failed or ended for any reason.
