"staples of Soviet television" - Unreferenced POV or present-day bias?[edit]

"Cossacks" may be the staple of today's Kremlin-TV, but honestly, I don't recall it shown on Soviet TV of 1970s-1980s. The true staple, Leonid Bykov's "V boi idut odni stariki", was shown twice a year on the third channel, and this was considered extremely frequent by the standards of the period. The Soviet film stock was quite modest, and yet the films were rerun on TV at very long intervals (if at all). Any reference - just how frequently the "Cossacks" appeared on TV, actually? David MacFadyen, The Sad Comedy of Elʹdar Riazanov: An Introduction to Russia's Most Popular Filmmaker, McGill-Queen's Press: 2003, ISBN 0773526366 states on pages 48-49 that, "[Cossacks] is shown frequently on Russian television today," which although a monograph on another director, may be a good source for the statement that it is shown often today, (or rather in 2003, the time of MacFadyen's book unless we find another ref) and could be cited if comparisons are drawn later in this article between Pyryev and El'dar Riazanov. I'm seeing your point better now, we need a citation that says it was shown very often sometime earlier. I'm not editing or adding any more information to this article until I've seen Pyryev's films. I translated a bit and added some refs without having seen any and I still feel guilty about that, but I didn't translate or write that part. Ask Ghirla. dvdrw 21:41, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
