sports context[edit]

In sports contexts, the name "Côte d'Ivoire" is used almost exclusively (for Olympics, World Cup, etc). We could compare this to, for instance, using "Chinese Taipei" instead of "Taiwan" in sports contexts. So any proposed move to "Ivory Coast at the Olympics" would need to go through an RM discussion, as it is not uncontroversial, and needs to be decided independently of the title of the main article.

For example, there are currently requested-move discussions regarding Myanmar football team articles, to move them to Burma titles, even though the country itself has been at Burma since 2008. Some would even argue that non-sports articles like Economy of Ivory Coast should have gone through an RM, similar to the Flag of China requested-move discussion and others which were handled individually independently of the move to China itself, but I personally would not go that far. — P.T.
