Sources[edit]

Source #6 ("ref name = Klotter") is currently blank. Perhaps "Kleber" was intended.

One overlooked source so far is Harrod's entry in the American National Biography, which is perhaps the most recent scholarly article about him. —Kevin Myers 04:51, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Harrod and Sarah Moore had 10 children, not 12, the other two belong to the first wife, as per Bernice Swainson, Helynn Carrier, Susan Atkins, Michael Schwing. The other authors cited as support are quoting old or incorrect documents and authors whose work was disproven 50 years ago. As the Harrods were never living in the Great Cove, I have removed that statement ["In 1755, Harrod's mother took the family and fled their home in Great Cove, Pennsylvania just before Lenape chief Shingas attacked the settlement.[1]"]which comes from a SUPPOSITION of William Harrod to Dr. Lyman Draper. This is explained in the History of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MichaelSchwing (talkcontribs) 21:33, 12 September 2012 (UTC) Proof:Living in Little Cove PA in 1750 when taxed (Filson Club files, published in "Harrod Family Genealogy and the Moore Family" compiled by Bernice Swainson, part one, Filson Club History Quarterly, Vol. 32, No. 2, Apr. 1958) 31 May 1750--name appears on a petition, living there about 3 yrs (Minutes of Provincial Council of Pennsylvania, Vol. 5, pp. 453-4, listed in "Harrod Family Genealogy and the Moore Family" compiled by Bernice Swainson, part one, Filson Club History Quarterly, Vol. 32, No. 2, Apr. 1958) Also Copy of Draper Mss 37J168-174, as published by Howard L. The name of Ann Coburn McDaniel's first husband is McDaniel, not McDonald (another example of when something is put in print it is copied ad infinitum without checking or verification), as per her obituary: Obituary of Ann Coburn MacDaniel Harrod from the Western Christian Advocate, (a weekly Methodist newspaper), Volume X (page 95 in a book Western Christian Advocate Obituaries and Marriages Volume 1, abstracted by Margaret R. Waters and Mabel W. Milliken, 1944-1945, DAR, 929.11 D238w 1966, from copy in the Indiana State Library, Indianapolis:

"ANN HARROD, b. Mar. 4, 1756, Catawba River, Roan Co., N.C.; d. Apr. 14, 1843, Harrod's Station, 7 mi. S.E. of Harrodsburg, Ky.; dau. of Samuel and Margaret Coburn; m.
