I marked this as NPOV because I noticed the text was 100% copied from the bio page of Jennifer Siebel's website. I am not sure if that in itself is a problem, but it does read like one-sided praise for her. [1] Mckennagene (talk) 05:03, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the article back to the last revision prior to the introduction of the copyvio, which was inserted by an IP editor in October 2008. Copyright violations don't merit an NPOV tag; they should be reverted on sight. Horologium (talk) 00:04, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First Lady or First Partner[edit]

Since there could be a possibility of an edit war and to avoid reverting violations, it needs to be discussed whether Ms. Newsom will be referred to as First Lady or First Partner of California as wife of Governor Gavin Newsom. The official website of the Governor's Office refers to her as First Partner (here) and several media outlets reported her preference of First Partner as opposed to the more traditional title of First Lady. Should her article use her preferred title and the one the Governor's Office uses, or the more traditional and common First Lady for consistency reasons? Since you refer to her as "wife of Governor Gavin Newsom," I see it as only fitting that she be referred to as "First Lady" on her Wikipedia page. If Mrs. Newsom wants to call herself the "First Partner" on her personal Twitter page or introduce herself as such at social gatherings, that is entirely her prerogative. At the end of the day, she is still a woman who married the Governor of California. Seeing that Mrs. Newsom did nothing to earn her title other than marry someone, I see her own self-classification of as entirely trivial. If the Newsom's were a same-sex couple and the governor was married to a man, I could understand the case for a male spouse to be referred to as "First Partner" or "First Gentleman." As it is now, Mrs. Newsom's page should reflect that she is First Lady of California. The same goes for Markos Kounalakis, the Second Gentleman of California. It isn't just her personal Twitter page as you are referring to it. This is the title used on the official website of the Governor. No one has said she isn't a woman or isn't the wife of Gavin Newsom. I am totally fine with First Lady as a title for her page, but there should be consensus to what title should be on there. If it is decided First Lady, a note should at least be made in the article that she uses the alternative title of First Partner. On another note, First Partner isn't a title that same-sex couples use either, as the de facto partner of the Colorado Governor uses the title of First Gentleman, not First Partner. Sounds like a pretty clean-cut non-issue to me. The only things that make her First Lady are that she is a woman and she is married to the governor. RE: First Lady or Partner of California[edit]

Hello, there was a minor edit war between three users (myself included) on whether Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s title should be regarded as ‘First Lady of California’ or ‘First Partner of California.’ The previous discussion, concluded on January 25, 2019, lasted for one day and consisted of only two users. Per the suggestion of another individual in the edit war, I’m reopening this discussion for more opinions.

I believe the title must be regarded as ‘First Partner of California’ as the Government of California and the Office Jennifer Newsom occupies refers to it as. The Government of California refers to ‘First Lady of California’ as the old title. As such, I believe previous spouses of California Governors may be referred to as ‘First Ladies.’ Please leave your opinion on the matter, thank you for your time.

An apology to the Wikipedian I mentioned, I steered away from good faith and want to reestablish it.
