Funding and Expenses
[edit]MPs receive more than double the average Income in the United Kingdom.[1] plus postage and expenses.[2] Wright's registered members' interests are listed on Theyworkforyou.com, and local donations on Searchthemoney.com.
An editor deleted this new paragraph today, without replacement, writing "Almost certainly better to write a summary of what his registered interests are. (TW)) (undo)"
The editor did not write a summary of what the registered interests are.
650 MPs have a lot of petty-cash expenses and local interests that change every day, so updating links to individual items would be close to a full-time job! Also, summery involves choosing the interesting donations or expenses, which is very subjective and removes the interest of random detail or things that vested interests have edited-out. So I think deep links (preferably) or links to these sites are the only way to go.
Maybe someone will come-up with a better idea so I will leave this a few weeks before pressing "undo".
Suggestions for other editors: Theyworkforyou.com is better laid-out than the official web site for expenses. With a little time, it's possible to find the deep link as above. Searchthemoney.com is good for conservative MPs but is partizan in the parties it covers. I don't know if there is a better site for listing constituenty party funding for other parties. It's probably hidden on the electoral commission web site somwhere, but I haven't found it or a good way to link 90.202.217.125 (talk) 17:08, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- You're quite right that I didn't write a summary - I was busy cooking. I would argue strongly that if you propose to include essentially the same paragraph in every wikipedia article, complete with external links and an implicit value judgement that it'll be best to take this to wikiproject politics and get some idea from there. Perhaps an external link to both sites might be the most appropriate way forward - we're really looking to summarise rather than to simply link to someplace else.
- As an example, I happened to be working on Brandon Lewis earlier. I'll add the external link to They work for you if that's appropriate. That might be a better way to manage such things - an almost identical paragraph on every article is totally inappropriate in my opinion.
- And, you know, I might just get around to writing a summary of Wright's registered interests - as well as seeing if there's anything else that might be interesting about him to include. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:14, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Updated now - as it happens his register of interests is entirely unremarkable, although there are some expenses mistakes he made which I've documented and referenced. I've also improved the article as a whole, despite his constituency being in an area of the country I know very little about, and made some calls as to what might be appropriate summaries of his political work. There's probably more than could be added, but this isn't a bad summary for now.
- Given how long that took me I can see how it must be attractive to simply dump the same stuff on each page. But this is a better article as a result (in my opinion). It would be lovely if, rather than content dumping, something productive could be done about articles instead. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:10, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Apologies for wasting even more time, but I'm wondering whether the expenses thing (which made copy for some UK newspapers for months, I know) is at all notable in Jeremy Wright's case. He overcharged £46.71 and repaid it. Other expenses were questioned but he was not asked to repay them, suggesting they were basically all right. Should we now delete the paragraph?
- But why on earth did he go to Trinity School, New York City? (Who's Who agrees that he really did.) Andrew Dalby 14:23, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

'Professor of Practice' - practice in what?
[edit]The uninitiated may be wondering what faculty Wright teaches in at the University of Warwick, mentioned in subsection on Register of Members' Interests. The Register may not define it but surely there is literature on the University that might shed light on the department.Cloptonson (talk) 17:16, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
