Page move[edit]

I recently moved the article Jimmy Conway to Jimmy Burke (gangster), as the latter title is clearly preferable. Then I started a new, factually accurate Jimmy Conway stub here. If you're feeling lost, the old content is at Jimmy Burke (gangster). Capisci? -- FP (talk)(edits) 03:44, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Distinction between real/fictional[edit]

Jimmy Burke actually did die in 1996 but the character Jimmy Conway is still alive at the end of the movie. I deleted the birth/death info from the article for this reason. MatttK (talk) 08:17, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Redirecting to James Burke bio[edit]

After a lot of thought, I'm changing the redirect to from the film Goodfellas to the bio page of James Burke, who this character is based on, because I think it's preferable for most people searching for this name. Here's my reasoning: When people are searching for this character they are mainly interested in the person the character was based on, and the conclusion of his "story arch", as it's a well known fact Goodfellas "is based on a true story" (a direct quote from the the opening title, and the first message conveyed after mentioning the producer, director and main cast of De Niro, Liotta, Pesci, Bracco and Sorvino). The movie also ends with this quote:

"Jimmy Conway is currently serving a 20-years-to life sentence for murder in a New York State prison. He will not be eligible for parole until 2004 when he will be 78 years old."

...which obviously makes people interested in the real life person behind this character. While linking to the Goodfellas page arguably makes a lot of sense, there's unfortunately no information whatsoever in that article about James Burke, and the link to his bio page is buried deep in the article about the film. On the other hand, there is information about both Goodfellas and (obviously) James on his bio page, and whoever is searching for this name will also immediately get the information that he later died in prison. Also, this behavior is consistent with other characters appearing in the film, based on real people, such as Henry Hill and "Paul Cicero", which redirects you to Paul Vario. On second thought, turns out there is a disambiguation page on James Conway, where Jimmy Conway was already listed, and several people named Jimmy Conway, so redirecting to James Conway probably makes even more sense. Cleaned that page up, and linked to James Burke (gangster). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gavleson (talkcontribs) 12:32, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
