This article reads like an autobiography. Parts are poetical, at times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ice ax1940ice pick (talkcontribs) 12:56, 1 July 2014 (UTC) This editor has been blocked as a sock of serial puppeteer Azul411. RolandR (talk) 17:07, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. It reads like a resume. Hza a 9 (talk) 21:02, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the concerns raised above. Corcoran is known for actively curating his image, on and off-line, with more of an eye to his legacy than historical accuracy. This page may be heavily influenced by his efforts. Given the issues with bias in biographies of living people, the page's content should be taken with a heavy grain of salt. 49.224.209.156 (talk) 06:31, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide evidence of the serious accusation that "Corcoran is known for actively curating his image." Specifically, please provide evidence that 1. He does this and 2. He does this MORE than the average person featured in a Wikipedia article. In this day and age, most people have some hand in contributing to information about them that is available on the internet. To my ears, and without actual evidence, this sounds like a personal attack by someone who simply dislikes the subject.
Furthermore, I am a former student of John Corcoran's (I took a class with him at SUNY Buffalo in 2004). The article rings true to my memory. In particular, I can attest to the section concerning how Corcoran ran his classroom and collaborated with others. His pedagogy was PARTICULARLY communal. We were trained to check work with one another and to actively collaborate on assignments (i.e., significantly more than is typical). Corcoran would share whatever he was working on with the class (often SEVERAL articles in rapid succession), requesting feedback and corrections. Whenever someone provided such feedback or corrections, Corcoran made it a point to acknowledge that person in the published version (if you look at any of his work you will see that he gives credit to a large number of people). He was meticulous in giving credit where credit was due. Corcoran maintained a listserv for collaboration (so students and others interested in continuing the practice could continue to do so after taking his courses). While I can understand that those who did not know him might find that portion of the page suspicious (i.e., supposing that EVERYONE collaborates), I can attest that Corcoran's model and practice was unique and worthy of note. Decades later, I still use some of his personal pedagogy strategies and methods for collaboration in my classrooms. 76.181.209.28 (talk) 17:04, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

John Corcoran passed away on January 8, 2021. He was ill for a short time with a blood infection that did not respond to aggressive treatment with antibiotics.WaltPeterson (talk) 16:33, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

this biography reads like a hagiography, and lacks sufficient sourcing for marginal claims.
