Joe Sobran Quoted by Ann Coulter[edit]

There are several Joseph Sobran quotes in [http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=212277 Ann Coulter]'s obituary, Not Your Average Joe. Asteriks (talk) 09:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know what you mean, but someone might be confused by that phrasing. Just to be clear: thankfully, Ann has not died. Rather, she wrote a tribute to Joe. NCdave (talk) 17:58, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Holocaust Denial[edit]

Sobran's connections with Holocaust deniers is well established; whether he was one is a matter of interpretation. The issue is discussed on the page. The reader can come to his or her own conclusions based on the facts as presented CJDate (talk) 15:01, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but let's be careful about "connecting" people (even dead ones) with Holocaust denial. Did Sobran say Hitler and the Nazis never murdered any Jews; or that the number of murdered people was exaggerated by 2% or 15% or something; or just that he was not so much intent on "extermination" as on some other goal?
The comparison is to Abraham Lincoln who explicitly placed one goal above another, i.e., to preserve the union - whether or not the slaves were freed. (We can then argue about Lincoln's position on slavery: was he pro or con, or just didn't really care one way or another?)
I hope we will abide by WP:Controversy in the matter of Sobran's views about Jews/Israel and the views of his critics. --Uncle Ed (talk) 11:07, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Irony and nuance[edit]

Some readers may have missed the irony in Sobran quotes like the following:

On Canada banning Dr. Laura: “Canada has to protect itself against such pernicious, hate-filled American notions as the Law of Moses. If Dr. Laura wants to spew the Ten Commandments, let her do it in her own country.” [http://www.wnd.com/2010/10/212277/]

What’s the irony — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.102.135.198 (talk) 22:23, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Does this need to be noted?[edit]

"Sobran said Catholic teachings are consistent with his opposition to abortion..."

Huh? The Catholic Church is famously and consistently opposed to abortion. Why do we need to be told that Sobran taking *the exact same position* is "consistent" with that (equivalent) position? All equivalent positions are consistent with each other! GeneCallahan (talk) 01:05, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
