A good foundation

[edit]

Here are some suggested further tasks for enterprising users:

  • Adding more biographical information, possibly from the biography at www.julietavenegas.net
  • Adding a photo (one without copyright restrictions) other than album cover art
  • Adding chart information to the songs and albums

Birthplace

[edit]

To: 201.143.0.69 & 201.143.3.6

I checked the official website and it confirms that she's born in Tijuana, Baja California, so I am going to revert your edits changing it to elsewhere. If you can produce evidence supporting the claim that she was born in Mexico City or Distrito Federal, by all means do so. wikinick 10:56, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nick, there already is a Spanish version of this article

    • I've interviewed Julieta several times and she's told me she was born in Long Beach, California, raised in Tijuana. Her sister also confirmed this. You can check out the articles I've published in the San Diego Union-Tribune www.signonsandiego.com.

Factual Accuracy

[edit]

To the person behind IP addresses starting with 201.143:

Please refrain from randomly changing facts such as birthplaces, birthdates, and whether someone won a grammy or not unless you have serious evidence to prove your side of the debate. I contend, as per this published news article, that Venegas did win a Latin Grammy for Best Vocal Rock Album, that she was born in Tijuana, Baja California, and that (given her age as stated relative to the article's publication date, and presuming that she was in fact born on November 24) she was born in the year of 1970. See here for an additional confirmation of that birthdate. Anyway, as such, I am reverting your changes until you can provide reasonable evidence to support your edits.

Anti-vandalism action taken

[edit]

I have made a post to Wikipedia:Requests for Investigation concerning the vandalism conducted by the person behind IP addresses starting with 201.143 (and 201.130). Hopefully we can achieve some resolution of this issue and allow this article to accumulate useful, factual edits without needing reverts every month. Please see my above comments for reasons as to my taking this action. wikinick 22:25, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you check, you will find she was born in Long Beach. Personal interviews available with her online at many sources corroborate this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.248.168 (talk) 10:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion 2010-04-01

[edit]

There has been discussion on this talkpage about where the subject was born; ergo, this is contested. Walking into an article and just deleting material or categories without leaving a note on the talk is not in good form. Request citations first and after a reasonable period of time, usually about three to six months, then delete but state prior on talkpage that unsourced cited material is being deleted. --Morenooso (talk) 20:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The most recent deletions were unrelated to her place of birth. I removed the categories 'Mexicans of French descent' and 'People from Chula Vista, California'. Had these been the body of the article they would have been marked as 'needs citation' or deleted without discussion. If we're not allowed delete categories, how can they be marked as under dispute? Fuddle (talk) 12:47, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion is here on the talkpage which is all that is necessary for making that a contested deletion. I don't dispute the French descent one and will delete that one upon posting here. The difference is that whenever I make a deletion, I always post on the article talkpage. Conversely, if I contest a deletion, I post on the article's talkpage. The Delete 1 warning template says, When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page (my bolding for emphasis. Making deletions without consulting the talkpage and seeking consensus is akin to walking onto a field guarded by landmines. --Morenooso (talk) 17:43, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The discussions are in two three sections above this one dealing with her birthplace and factual accuracy and anti-vandalism. Immediately after the deletion, I posted my rationale on this talkpage contesting the deletion. And in the case of yesterday's deletion of a citation, it was a nonstandard one that could could not be verified. Additionally, the refimprove tag was added which allows more stringent need for adding citations. Conversely, unsourced deletions can be reversed as per that tag. --Morenooso (talk) 17:52, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please see this talkpage discussion about the difficulty in verifying sources and/or deletions in non-English articles by an admin. --Morenooso (talk) 17:58, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Basic English usage problems

[edit]
  • This article is poorly written with serious mistakes in English usage, punctuation, and style. I tried to fix some of the worst parts but I think that it would have to be completely rewritten to look halfway presentable. I am sure that Julieta herself could have done a much better job.
She could've indeed - it looks like she grew up bilingual. Search for her covers of "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" and "Blackbird", she has a native accent in English.

Personal Life

[edit]

Is there no one knowledgeable and interested enough out there to write just a couple lines of personal life info? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melgomac (talkcontribs) 00:43, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Album not mentioned

[edit]

I don't see this 2007 album mentioned anyplace in this article: Realmente lo Mejor . Seems like it should be included in the discography. TimidGuy (talk) 11:54, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pending Translation

[edit]

On duolingo the spanish version of this wiki page is currently being translated to english. The spanish page contains much more information. Maybe anyone could check if some of the info from the spanish version can be incorporated in the english version.
