Certification[edit]

Cole's debut album as having been certified gold status.
chsf, 22:12, 2006/01/25 (UTC) Billboard now lists it as having been certified platinum status on the Billboard Hot 200, but not on the list of recent RIAA certifications, and RIAA themselves still list it as a gold album. -- chsf, 21:41, 2006/02/16 (UTC)

Singles/Songs[edit]

We should start making pages for her hits! If anyone is willing to start on this task, please have a look at the WikiProject: Songs page for inspiration!
-- chsf, 13:26, 2006/01/26 (UTC)

I think Keyshia should do alot more singles for her forth/upcoming album. It would definitely brings more success to her career. Dont yall think so too ? if so try and spead the word so it will reach Keyshia cause i would definitely love to see more singles from this album and im sure u guys would too so let make this our little project to get this to Ms.Cole —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.27.3.95 (talk) 22:52, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Birth year?[edit]

The German version of this article says she was born in 1983, but this article says she was born in 1984. Which is correct? The editor of the German article gives askmen.com's page on her as a source, which does say she was born in 1983. --Revolución (talk) 21:52, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Billboard's biography on her also says that she was born either in 1983 or 1982 because according to them she made "making her major-label debut in 2004 at age 21" (Billboard.com - Biography - Keyshia Cole) -- chsf, 00:21, 2006/01/28
I'm going to change it for 1983, that seems more accurate than 1984, as she is said to be 21 in 2004. --Revolución (talk) 04:37, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Thank you! -- chsf, 2:43, 2006/01/29 (UTC)

I noticed the changing of Keyshia Cole's birthdates on RC patrol. I did a little research: IMDB gives her birthdate as October 15, 1981, but I found two sources, Askmen.com and GoHastings.com that list her as born in 1983. However, I couldn't verify the date in 1983; the only site I found that gave a specific date was IMDB (which has the apparently wrong year). Mangojuice 20:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Her single was released March 24th 2004, and she was said to be 21, so the date cannot be October 24th 1983, she would have been 20. So she was born between March 25th 1982 and March 24th 1983.

Keyshia Cole's birthday is October 15th. She mentioned it during an interview on Hot97 (97.1, WQHT, A New York based radio station) after the host, Miss Jones, mistakingly thought the two shared the same birthday of October 24th. A podcast of the interview can be downloaded from http://www.hot97.com/podcasts/#missjones. The year was not mentioned.

Rumours[edit]

Unless rumours have had some important effect on an artist's career or other aspects of her life, I do not see the validity in keeping them in the article. -- chsf, 23:45 2006/02/03 (UTC)

  • "She stated on her show 'The way it is' that once in her life she had to turn to prostitution to survive. Her real mother has been struggling with drugs her whole life, which put Keyshia and sister, Neffy, at risk." DIVERSEMENTALITY, please try discussing issues rather than taking it upon yourself to edit facts that you do not wish to acknowledge or agree with. This isn't your community college. --67.80.185.250 (talk) 14:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

And for yourself, please try to read Wikipedia guidelines and know that social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook are not reliable sources. Unless a third-party reliable publication clearly states her middle name is one or the other, I think her middle name should be removed, as it will continue this ongoing edit war. How is Facebook not valid when it BELONGS to the party in question. Her own verified Twitter account says Keyshia Michelle Cole. So if she says that is her name and she asserts this on her show, why are we still talking about Myeshia? Just because vandalism is long-standing doesn't make it true...... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.9.43.82 (talk) 02:43, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Letter From A Special Friend[edit]

Keyshia Cole is a one of a kind. Please do not start any rumors about Keyshia Cole. If you do not know nothing about her, let her be then. She has thousands of fans wanting to see her and maybe one day be just like her. She has thousands and thousands of role models and I'm one of them. Thank-you. Her special friend, Latika Rynne Gray

Voice[edit]

It is said that her highest note is Bb5 and/or C6. If she doesn't use falsetto doesn't that mean she belted it. In her song LOve, thought you had my back this time she belted some amazingly high notes.

Keyshia has a very amazing voice but she couldn't hit a B5 if he life depended on it! Her vocal range: E3 - F5. It was said that she was dating wit Flody Mayweather —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.231.221.60 (talk) 06:41, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Vocal Type: Full Dramatic Soprano/ Highest Note: C6, Bb5 (Live) / Highest note in Full voice: G5 (Love and I Just Want (It To Be Over)/

PXDRIVE copyvio assertion[edit]

Rockstar915 added a speedy deletion tag to this page, asserting that:

This item is unquestionably a copyright infringement of http://www.pxdrive.com/album/KEYSHIA+COLE_pictures_zlclpic/, and no assertion of permission has been made.

However, it is clear that the text currently in place at that website is, in fact, a copy of this Wikipedia article, rather than the other way around. PXDRIVE is a wiki-like website where users contribute image files and text descriptions; it seems some user there copied the text from this Wikipedia article.

As for the magazine cover shown in the bio box (which, it should be noted, was added back by Rockstar915 himself), that may well be a copyvio suitable for speedy deletion. But the article text is unquestionably in the clear, so I'm removing the speedy deletion candidate tag. --Ryanaxp 23:08, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

My mistake. This is one of many articles that has been vandalized by numerous sockpuppets of Josh Gotti, who is known for adding in copyvio text. I don't care what you do with the image. Rockstar (T/C) 23:52, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Rockstar915, thank you for looking into this and pointing out the possible vandalism. Regarding the magazine image, I mentioned it only because I was confused why you re-added it after tagging the article as copyvio (perhaps to make clear the connection to the PXDRIVE content?). --Ryanaxp 11:32, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
No, I readded the image because it had been removed by an IP which appeared to look like vandalism (changing of the infobox is generally an indicator). Rockstar (T/C) 15:35, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Just Like You[edit]

Ok, this has been a while but why was the article deleted? It had sources if I remember at all. There was no reason to get rid of it.

At the time there were no sources. It was deleted because it was only rumored and Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. If new reliable sources exist, feel free to recreate the article. Also, don't forget to sign your talk posts with "~~~~". Happy editing! Rockstar (T/C) 23:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

heritage and race[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Keyshia Myeisha Johnson was born to Frankie Lons on October 15, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dvinemrsshay (talkcontribs) 03:52, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Birthname[edit]

This is really bugging me. Keyshia's birthname is Keyshia Myeshia Johnson. I don't understand why it keeps getting changed. Her surname of birth is NOT Cole. I have cited references about it and it's been on television and everything. If we want to help this article by cleaning it up, we can start with her birthname which is in fact Keyshia Myeshia JOHNSON!!!

Edit request from 170.252.248.203, 22 February 2011[edit]

{{edit semi-protected}} There are 2 references to the rap artist "Amina". Amina (the rapper) does not have a Wikipedia page, and the second reference of Amina is shown in red indicating there is no linked page.

However, in the section of Keyshia Cole's page titled "2006-2007: Just like You", the fourth line references Amina but is linked to a queen from the 1500's and should be removed. Thanks!

170.252.248.203 (talk) 23:12, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the heads up. Tiderolls 00:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Her middle name.[edit]

This is the last time I will correct this page. Whoever keep correcting her name to Keyshia Michelle Cole needs references to where he or she got this name from. It's not accurate. I don't know who started it. However, her birth name is Keyshia Myeshia Johnson. I have several references citing it plus Keyshia herself correcting a fan that her middle name is in fact "Myeshia-- Not Michelle." It would be appreciated that after this edit, it would be left alone. Thank you. Manuel Mexico (talk) 7:42, April 9, 2011 (UTC)

--Her twitter account it states that her name is Keyshia Michelle, not Keyshia Myeshia....... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.9.43.82 (talk) 09:49, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

---Please direct me to that link because I can link two separate occasions, one of which I asked her directly what her name was, where she then replied, Keyshia MYESHIA! Please leave her name alone UNLESS you can list a reference to this false fact more reliable than Keyshia herself. http://twitter.com/#!/keyshiacole/status/19506629783330816 Keyshia's input in this tweet starts where she types "..No that's not my middle name...- --KEYSHIA MYESHIA" Manuel Mexico (talk) 10:38, October 22, 2011 (UTC)

Semi-protected[edit]

As of today (June 2, 2011), I would like for this page to be semi-protected. I have came to this page multiple times to see that it has been destroyed with improper grammar, improper punctuation, and false information. The main source of this is her personal life section and her middle name. Her middle name is Myeshia. She has stated it HERSELF. Michelle was a rumor on Wikipedia that confused and misinformed fans that keep changing it. I've changed it back multiple times and cited references, but ignorant editors have changed it back. That's why I would like for this page to be locked so only editors with proper English and factual information to edit it. Thank you! Manuel Mexico (talk) 7:47, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

Mass change[edit]

I reverted this edit because of the unexplained removal of several sources and other pieces of content, image changes, and other unexplained changes. I think an edit of that magnitude needs to be explained in greater detail, either on here or done in a few edits with more summaries. Thanks. Acalamari 11:19, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Images of other artists (inspirations)[edit]

Should there really be pictures of Brandy and Mary J. Blige in the article, simply because she cites them as inspirations? The article is in no way about these artists.

Introductory section[edit]

I found this sentence in the opening paragraph confusing: "Her career began when she met MC Hammer at the age of 12, and later met rapper Tupac Shakur." In what way did her career start then? The article doesn't list major achievements at that time. Maybe the foundation of her career was laid at that time? Hoping someone can clarify that language. Thanks.
