Occupational therapy and kinesiotherapy are completely different programs. It would be unfair to both organizations to combine them on one page.

I Agree with you 100% -- They are very different. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.228.194.248 (talk) 22:11, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

then add something to the article to make it clear what the difference is (and preferably include citations, professional bodies, examining boards, etc.) Gabrielbodard (talk) 20:11, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

This seems quite similar to physical therapy. Either we should explain the difference or we should merge the two articles. At present there's not even a link between the two. Eric Kvaalen (talk) 13:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. This comes from a translation discrepancy. In France & Belgium, Physical therapists are called Kinesiotherapists. In French-speaking Switzerland and Quebec, those professionals are called Physical therapists. To complicate things further, French people believe that Physiotherapy is a subset of Kinesiotherapy. Merge and explain ;) NicDumZ ~ 06:33, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well in actual Kinesiotherapy comes under Physical therapy. It should be included in Physiotherapy with heading and body. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.89.115.157 (talk) 16:33, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

completely lacking sufficient information..aka what is currently available on this wikipedia page in fallacious. Kinetics is the study of motion (energy) thus the term that is attempting to be coined would be therapy involving motion, which is the same as saying physical therapy when applied to an individual performing mobile acts of the human body to decrease or prevent physical pain from the individual, when integrated into the individual's way of life.. Whoever entered the "word" kinesiotheraphy was most likely attempting to open an entrepreneurship;thus, a marketing scheme "attempted" to coin this phrase.... CAUTION DO NOT QUOTE THIS SECTION ON "KINESIOTHERAPHY" IT IS NOT A REAL WORD, THE TERM YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS PHYSICAL THERAPY. There is a link between exercise and mental health, endorphins caused by exercise elevate the mood and generally lessen the effects of depression, yet sufficient scientific data to definitely prove so has not been evident. To treat an illness by exercise alone is complete madness...the rationale being the the increase in endorphins will lessen the symptoms of depression; although this might be helpful for the willing, what happens to those who are too depressed to leave their own residence? What about those with mental illness not involving depression? or to others whose healthy mental chemistry requires more than the endorphins alone to stabilize their state of average mental health? "kinesiotheraphy" defined on this website includes the definition "treatment of psychiatry" via movement, lack of sufficient evidence proving positive effects on the cognitive being, as well as inclusion of "exercise prescription" which should be more properly labeled as exercise suggestion, considering the lack of data and authority to require citizens a minimum amount of movement. In summary: poor word choice/formation, DOES NOT EXIST IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE = IF YOU ARE IN THE USA AND USE THIS TERM EITHER A OR B WILL FOLLOW..A) YOUR PROFESSOR WILL ACKNOWLEDGE IF THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH FRENCH TERMINOLOGY, OR B) WONDER WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE DOING IN A HEALTH MAJOR; SUGGESTING FICTIONAL WORDS TO CONSTRUCT A POINT. lack of sufficient evidence connecting it's influence on the human being. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.192.18 (talk) 10:14, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
