Speaks Spanish fluently?[edit]

Where does the idea of Kobe speaking Spanish fluently comes from? He demonstrated how well he still retained his Italian fluency but he couldn't even get some words in Spanish that were similar to Italian in an interview. He may know quite a bit of Spanish, but is it enough to warrant fluency? I understand everyone has their own rating scale, just as my Brazilian friends insist that I speak Portuguese fluency but I never do consider myself fluent due to the numerous domains where the vocabulary is non-existent, but I think it's fair to say that Kobe isn't fluent in Spanish. Mamoahina (talk) 12:59, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, the ref says he speaks to Gasol in Spanish, but it doesn't explicitly say he is fluent. Maybe he only knows certain phrases. I've removed "fluently" from the article. Zagalejo^^^ 22:09, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

He has done interviews in spanish 68.32.157.47 (talk) 16:03, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Looking through YouTube, he was asked in 2008 in a press conference to respond to a reporter in Spanish, and after joking "Where's Pau when I need him," he struggled to get out a brief response in (as he called it) Spanglish (and again jokes that Gasol should have given him a cheat-sheet). A couple years later (post-game interview Lakers Vs Timberwolves Game 8, 2010) he is interviewed briefly in Spanish and responds pretty fluently, and there are other more recent examples of him being interviewed pretty fluently in Spansih. It certainly doesn't appear that he learned to speak Spanish fluently while growing up in Italy as the current text suggests. It looks like more of an evolution over time. 134.134.139.77 (talk) 20:36, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Height edit[edit]

Resolved: Footnote added to infobox.

Kobe himself admits that he is in the 6'4" department in regards to his height...I think it's time for an update.

I added back the footnote here after someone removed it. It seems innocent enough to have this and avoid people "correcting" it with his "real" height, as opposed to what is listed at by NBA. The footnote is per WP:NBAHEIGHT.—Bagumba (talk) 23:52, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Retired?[edit]

Article states Kobe Bryant is retired, though later states he will retire at the end of the 2015-16 season, which is not yet completed. Accurate to call him retired already, and use the past tense regarding his basketball career? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.203.126.244 (talk) 18:16, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Fixed. It's definitely premature in the absence of any evidence of a recent announcement.—Bagumba (talk) 19:25, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Stats[edit]

Now, the career stats should be included into the infobox. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.94.42.98 (talk) 09:36, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Former vs retired player[edit]

Respectfully submitted...the first line of Kobe Bryant's bio should read, is a retired American basketball player. Xanderraine (talk) 08:52, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

@Xanderraine: Wikipedia convention in NBA bios is to use "former". Sometimes there is a technicality about whether a player has formally submitted their retirement papers to the league.—Bagumba (talk) 17:51, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

stats[edit]

I think you should add the fact kobe is now rank third in all time leading scoring. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marquez504 (talkcontribs) 14:53, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

This is already mentioned in the article. —DangerousJXD (talk) 21:54, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Position[edit]

Could we now add the information of him also being a small forward? This past regular season, he played predominantly in the SF position. Babymissfortune 05:11, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

SF was mentioned already at Kobe Bryant#Final season (2015–2016). Being that he only played 1/20 seasons there, I wouldn't put it in the lead.—Bagumba (talk) 08:01, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Although it was one season it was still a position he played in the league in his pro career. I think we should list it as an encyclopedia is supposed ot be as complete and accurate as possible. Shooting guard can still be listed as his lead position with small forward being listed as a secondary like a lot of articles are doing now. Banan14kab (talk) 20:48, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

We've been pretty clear about listing the PRIMARY position in cases where the player is overwhelmingly associated with one role (example - Magic Johnson). Kobe is regarded as one of the best shooting guards in league history and that's what he's known for. The short stint at SF is listed in the article, seems like that's good enough - not like it is being left out. Rikster2 (talk) 12:36, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
