I don't have time to contribute to this article at this time, but I'd like to encourage someone to take time on this. An important aspect of Lake Union Drydock which is not discussed in the article is that the yard as one of the few facilities remaining on the west coast that retains the capability to work on large wooden ships. For this reason Lake Union Drydock is an invaluable resource for the continued viability of historic vessels such as the steamboat Virginia V. Until recently, the Navy still operated a number of wood-hulled minesweepers, and these were also clients of L.U. Drydock.

There was a good article about the drydock in the Seattle Times a few years back. Someone wanting to expand this article should check that source.
