New list[edit]

I suggest a new article: List of islands in rivers. The Island of Montreal at 499 km² and Île Jésus (Area ?) would be candidates for that list. Peter Horn 15:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

Support merge into Ait with this list as an expansion to the main article. Verne Equinox (talk) 02:57, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Ait is a very specific type of island associated with the River Thames in England. Motmit (talk) 16:56, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vozrozhdeniya Island[edit]

Since the article says it is a list of islands in freshwater lakes, Vozrozhdeniya Island would not have qualified even before the dessication of the Aral Sea. Aapold (talk) 01:09, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's more of a continuum than a firm line. According to our article Aral Sea, prior to drying out the salinity was 10 g/L, as opposed to average ocean water salinity of 35 g/L. Not anything I'd choose to drink but comparably "fresh". Actualy the original source for the page doesn't specify "freshwater" so I'll just remove that word. - BanyanTree 01:55, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sääminginsalo and Soisalo[edit]

In Finland there are said to be two large lake islands, Soisalo and Sääminginsalo. While however, the lakes surrounding Soisalo are not in the same level, but there is a difference of 6 meters between the highest and lowest lake surface levels around it, and thus some concider Soisalo is not a real island (alltough the references for the viewpoint that the waters around an island should be at the same level are not given). Around Sääminginsalo, on the contrary, the lake surfaces are in the same level, but Sääminginsalo is not totally surrounded by lakes but also by an artificial canal that was built in the 1750's. And thus, if we accept Sääminginsalo as an island, we should also accept Jutland and Peloponnesos as islands, which apparently makes no sense.Urjanhai (talk) 16:36, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think of a bullet point for these, rather than numbering them, like we do for Vozrozhdeniya? So they appear but don't affect the numbering. - BanyanTree 02:26, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be the right solution now. In the case of Soisalo, there are no references for the criteria that waters around an island should be on the same level, but if someone finds references to verify or falsify this criteria, Soisalo can then be kept behind the bullet or added back depending on what the references will say. In the case of Sääminginsalo as compared with Jutland and Peloponnesos, I cannot consider it as an island, and so in my opinion based on the facts available now, it should be kept behind the bullet.Urjanhai (talk) 14:30, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
