Theater[edit]

Whoever it is that keeps using the british spelling "theatre", please stop it. Nothing against British spellings, but this is an American theater company and the other american theater articles use the american spelling. Also, the wiki-links keep redirecting incorretly otherwise. Thanks. Prophet121 21:18, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Many American theater companies use the "-re" spelling as a matter of tradition, so it's not strictly a US vs. UK WP:ENGVAR question. The actual name used by the company should be respected, "theater" should almost always be used in regard to American movie houses, and "theatre" or "theater" can be used in regard to "legitimate" houses depending on circumstances. In New York, Philadelphia, Boston and other older East Coast cities, for instance, the vast majority of theatrical companies and stages use the "-re" spelling, so it would not be out of line to talk about "theatres in Boston" - but "theaters in Boston" would do as well. As one moves West, there's less and less use of "-re", so the normal American spelling would be most appropriate.

In the case of the Latern Theater Company, the organization uses "-er", so that's what this article uses. BMK (talk) 04:32, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

Apparently Latern came into criticism for their staging of Julius Caesar in yellowface, and information about the controversy was appropriately added to the article. However, people connected with the critics have continued to attempt to add even more material to the paragraph about the controversy, and I have been reverting those efforts.

My feeling is that one third of the lede section is a sufficient amount to state what the controversy was, and per WP:WEIGHT, more would unbalance the article. Further, much of the material was promotional in nature, violating WP:PROMO and WP:SOAPBOX. Simply being verifiable and supporting information with a reliable source is not sufficient if it causes the article to be too one-sided. We most adhere to the neutral point of view.
