Accuracy of historical population data[edit]

It looks like the data here is really that from Clark County and not for the MSA. I tried to locate the actual data but the census site really fights you all the way. So if someone can find accurate data on population change please update this and link to the sources. Also, it would be nice to locate the historical definitions for the area. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:06, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The population of the neighboring counties is pretty tiny, and really insignificant compared to Clark. I'd say it's fine as it is as long as you specifically note that it's the Clark County population. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 15:54, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Requested move 15 April 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No consensus. Several participants pointed out that there is already an article titled "Las Vegas Valley" which is about the Las Vegas metropolitan area, and so moving this article to that title would be confusing. Also, several editors advocated mergeing this article into the Las Vegas Valley article, but I think we need a separate discussion for that. Las Vegas–Paradise, NV MSALas Vegas metropolitan area – Per WP:COMMONNAME. (The suggested target name already redirects here, and has for several years.) Or perhaps → Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area or Las Vegas–Paradise, Nevada, metropolitan area or Las Vegas–Henderson–Paradise metropolitan area. The current included "NV" postal-style abbreviation of the state name seems awkward, and the "MSA" abbreviation seems unlikely to be used – or even understood – by most people. Per WP:USPLACE, the state name seems unnecessary to include with "Las Vegas" per AP style. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:11, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Support. This makes much more sense than using the abbreviation that no one outside of the Census Bureau and Wikipedia use. kennethaw88talk 02:37, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Support – much better normal-language title. Dicklyon (talk) 02:59, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Support per COMMON. Nobody outside of Paradise area would think to look the current title up. Support. CookieMonster755 (talk) 21:52, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The article on the metropolitan area is Las Vegas Valley. Las Vegas metropolitan area should redirect there. A Metropolitan Statistic Area is different than a metropolitan area. 23:36, 24 April 2016 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tavix (talkcontribs)
  • Merge with Las Vegas Valley, which covers almost exactly the same thing. There's no real benefit to having separate articles on the metropolitan area and the metropolitan statistical area, as both can be covered in one place. We have other decent articles that cover metropolitan areas that have variable definitions, for instance Tampa Bay Area, Salt Lake City metropolitan area, and Research Triangle.--Cúchullain t/c 14:55, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
It would have to selective merge to both Las Vegas Valley, which is the actual metropolitan area, and Clark County, Nevada, which is coterminous with Las Vegas–Paradise, NV MSA. Redirects for Las Vegas metropolitan area (and variants) would target Las Vegas Valley, but any official MSA redirects would need to target Clark County, Nevada, since that's the "offical" designation for the statistical area. However, it might be a little messy. The MSA has changed its borders in the past, so it doesn't line up neatly with Clark County like I originally thought. At one point, it also included Nye County, Nevada and Mohave County, Arizona, so if the merge takes place, there would probably have to have a separate section on the MSA, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. -- Tavix (talk) 15:24, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Changing or variant boundaries could easily be discussed all at one article. That's how it's done at much more complicated cases like the ones I mentioned.--Cúchullain t/c 16:53, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree. I think that all can be discussed in a separate section in Clark County, Nevada. -- Tavix (talk) 21:19, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
